Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, we started preparing the Red Room for Christmas by making different Christmas decorations and art projects. We explained to the children that Christmas teaches us about kindness, giving, and spending time with the people they love. Through stories, songs, and fun activities, children learn the joy of sharing and helping others. They also begin to understand traditions— like decorating, singing, and celebrating together-which helps them feel a sense of belonging. Most importantly, Christmas shows them that small acts of love can make the season bright for everyone.
We read a few cute and fun Christmas books. The first was Little Red by Will Hillenbrand, followed by Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by Eric Litwin, and A Christmas Wish for Corduroy by Don Freeman. These stories have a lot in common: they teach the spirit of giving, helping others, kindness, resilience, cooperation, and friendship. They also explore colors, vehicles, names, problem-solving, hope, and the idea that even small individuals can make a big difference.
For art this week, the children had a blast using Christmas cookie cutters as stamps to create beautiful holiday collages. They also painted and decorated a paper square cutout to look like gift boxes, then added a photo of themselves inside so they could “pop” out as the perfect Christmas gift!
During centers this week, the children had fun engaging in parallel play with one or more friends. Some friends strengthened their fine-motor skills while exploring our Christmas-themed sensory bin and building block structures for their zoo animals. Others enjoyed using building blocks at the manipulatives table and completing our Christmas puzzle. Throughout these activities, the children practiced not only their fine-motor skills, but also their verbal communication, problem-solving skills, creativity, and teamwork.
The weather was beautiful this week, and the children made the most of it! They loved running around with friends, building sandcastles in the sandbox, and chatting while setting up chairs together on the grass. They also had a blast riding in the play cars and zooming down the corkscrew pole. Some friends worked together to create different drawings on collage paper at the table, while others ran in and out of the playhouses on their own little adventures. It was a week full of sunshine, imagination, and joyful outdoor play!
This week, we continued practicing our two songs for the Winter Sing: This Little Light of Mine and Frosty the Snowman. We also danced and waved colorful scarves to the song “Dancing in the Wind.”
This week, we celebrated Tevva's Birthday, we want to thank Tevva's family for coming in the Red Room to celebrate Tevva's Birthday. Thank you for bringing in the cute little cupcakes!
