Hello Red Room Families,
This week in the Red Room, we had so much fun learning all about Hanukkah! With the holiday season just around the corner, the Red Roomers were excited to explore this special celebration. We talked about how some friends celebrate Hanukkah, some celebrate Christmas, and some celebrate both—and how everyone celebrates in their own special way.
Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is celebrated for eight nights and is filled with meaningful traditions. Throughout the week, we enjoyed reading several Hanukkah stories, including My First Chanukah by dePaola, Daddy Christmas and Hanukkah Mama by Selina Alko, and Happy Hanukkah Curious George.
The stories helped us learn about family traditions and brought Hanukkah to life for the children. The Red Roomers learned that a menorah has eight candles and one special helper candle called the shamash. They also loved recognizing the dreidel and learning about its four sides—nun, gimel, hay, and shin—and what each symbol means.
It was a bright and joyful week full of learning, laughter, and fun. Happy Hanukkah! 🕎✨
This week, the Red Room students worked on three different art projects. For the first project, they painted their own dreidels using white and dark blue paint. Next, they created dreidel sun catchers, using glue, various shades of blue, and glitter to design their pieces. Lastly, the students worked on their own menorahs. The first step was decorating the base of the menorah, followed by coloring the candles with crayons. The candles will be assembled for them once completed.
During centers this week, the Red Roomers enjoyed participating in a variety of activities. The favorite center was the sensory bin filled with different shades of blue rice. On the rug, the children collaborated with one another to build with Duplos. At the manipulative tables, the students explored small birthday cakes, which helped them practice math skills and one-to-one correspondence.
This week, the Red Room students enjoyed spending time outdoors with their friends. We had a great time in the meadow, where some students experienced Santa’s sleigh ride. Others enjoyed running, kicking a ball, and tossing leaves into the air.
This week, the Red Roomers have been rehearsing in preparation for their big performance on Thursday evening.
Thank you to the parents for helping us put together this amazing pajama pizza party for the children. Everyone had a wonderful time enjoying delicious pizza and fruit, and they especially loved decorating their own cookies.
The time to take the stage finally arrived. We are so proud of all the children for performing with confidence and giving the stage and audience their very best.
