"... Early literacy activities build rich language skills: vocabulary, self-expression, and understanding (comprehension). These skills help children make sense of printed words when they start reading."

About Me

My name is Adrianna, and I have over 15 years of experience in education, working in various settings. I have worked as a guest teacher in public, private and religious schools with students in grades pre-k through 5th. I have taught children as young as four years old to read by first building a strong background in oral language, phonemic awareness, concepts about print, and alphabetic knowledge. In addition, I have served as a tutor, both 1-to1 and with small groups, and as a lead classroom teacher, I have taught first, second, and most recently, grade 5. While teaching first grade, I developed a passion for reading/literacy instruction, intervention and language development.

In addition to holding a BA in Sociology with additional coursework in child development and family and social dynamics, I have a clear multiple subjects teaching credential, reading and literacy leadership specialist credential with added authorization in reading and literacy, and a Masters in Reading, Language, and Literacy. I regularly participate in evidence-based professional development trainings on reading literacy and best practices (including completing a Comprehensive 30 hour IMSE Orton-Gillingham training, a six hour REED Charitable Foundation OG refresher training and as a current Reading Simplified Academy member teacher). I am passionate about literacy, and creating educational resources for students and families. As an educator, it is my goal to continue learning and improving, so I can provide my students and families with the support they deserve.

My Mission

In my experience as a 1st, 2nd and most recently 5th grade teacher and literacy advocate, I have always viewed education through the lens of social justice, believing every child deserves to learn to read and reach their full potential. In addition to providing high-quality, evidence-based reading instruction for my students, my mission is to develop partnerships with parents, caregivers, families, early childhood educators, and pediatricians to bring awareness to the importance of building early literacy, beginning in infancy. As an early literacy advocate, it is my goal to empower parents/caregivers in providing language-rich home environments that build crucial pre-reading skills that are significant predictors of future reading achievement. Through this project, I provide families with educational resources, materials, advocacy, and evidence-based information to support them in incorporating engaging and practical language and literacy-based activities into their daily routines.
