The Curran Nanophysics Research Group (CNRG) was honored to present its current research efforts to NSM Media and distinguished faculty members at the University of Houston. The event took place on May 8, 2025, and was attended by esteemed guests Dr. René Bellwied and Dr. Claudia Ratti, both M.D. Anderson Professors in the Department of Physics.
This special presentation served as a formal introduction to the CNRG team and offered faculty and media a firsthand look at the diverse research currently in progress within the group. Each undergraduate researcher shared a brief overview of themselves and their individual projects, outlining their areas of focus, scientific goals, and the broader impact of their work. These presentations showcased the interdisciplinary nature of CNRG’s mission, spanning nanophysics, materials chemistry, sol-gel synthesis, nonlinear optics, charge transport, and more.
In addition to celebrating the innovative work being done by each member, the event concluded with a surprise award ceremony hosted by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Four CNRG students were recognized with Dean’s Awards for their outstanding contributions to the team.
Award Recipients:
Bryan Hlavinka – $1000
Paula Perez – $500
Briana Salinas – $250
Alan Robles – $250
Each student was also presented with a beautifully framed print of the historic 1927 Solvay Conference, symbolizing not only the value of scientific collaboration, but also each recipient’s growing place within that legacy of inquiry and discovery.
The CNRG team is incredibly proud of its members and grateful for the support of NSM Media, visiting faculty, and the broader UH research community. We look forward to continuing our work and sharing future breakthroughs as our projects evolve.
