Good afternoon! This week's update includes a thank you message, positive feedback on Year 6 Open Evening, upcoming events like Year 6 and 12 open mornings as well as our Year 12 Open Evening, Black History Month activities, library resources, free breakfast club, and catering information. Parents and carers, please check the important dates for Year 11 and upcoming events. Don't forget to encourage your child to visit the library and enjoy the resources available.

Celebrate Black History Month in the library. Cotham are very lucky to have an amazing library and thousands of incredibly diverse books to read. We have a huge selection of books about black lives, culture and history. Both fiction and non fiction. See the link for a photo of our current book display and more information about BHM 2024.
BHM weekly mailing 2024 The School’s Open Evening for Cotham Post 16 Centre, carers and families will be held on Thursday 10 October 2024 between 4.30 pm-6.30 pm. As you will appreciate this is one of the most important events in the school year, therefore the school will close early for students to help staff prepare.
The school day for all students will end at 1.45 pm. Any student eligible for a Free School Meal will be able to collect their meal during their usual lunch break.
Should any parent or carer need the school to supervise their child beyond 1.45pm, please contact your child's Learning Coordinator (email addresses below) to let them know. Students remaining in school will be supervised in our library and will be able to work independently until 2.45 pm.

A large number of coats have been abandoned in the student reception area. Please remind your child to visit student reception to look through the lost property cupboard by the end of Friday 11 October 2024.
We have an amazing breakfast club available on site for the students from 8.10 am to 8.25am Monday to Friday with the choice of bagels and cereal.
We provide a healthy meal option for our young people at lunch time. It's an incredible opportunity for each and every student to enjoy the low cost 'Meal Deal' which we provide. Please find the catering update and menu for this academic year here.

We are excited to welcome four new students to Year 8 this week! A warm welcome to Egkechan, Omar, Chelsey, and Jason. We are thrilled to have them join our school community and look forward to seeing them settle in and thrive. A special mention to the students that acted as buddies and helped them settle in so quickly.

Ms Howfield says a huge thanks to Neva, Anna and Paula from RBI for helping her when she dropped loads of books! She gave them all house points as thanks.
Our Year 9 tutor football league is off to a thrilling start, with 12 matches already completed. 9MI currently lead the pack, having secured two hard-fought victories from two. The students have been loving it, with high spectator turnout creating a fantastic atmosphere at lunchtime matches.
In other news, we are delighted to welcome five new students to the Year 9 family: Karma, Elias, Riyan, Vicente, and Olivia. We’re sure they will settle in quickly and we look forward to seeing them thrive in their new school community!

YEAR 9 ADVERTISEMENT WEEKLY MAILING Year 10 five-a-side football is going well with two players notching up hat-tricks, one from 10EM and one from 10AD.
We have continued the push for work experience, with our careers team giving an assembly about the key benefits. Our Futures team helps the students through conducting different workshops where the pupils can develop transferable skills such as communications and teamwork.
So far this term 130 students have maintained 100% attendance which is a great start for them! This really shows how well the Year 10 pupils are included and engaged in the wider life of the school.
Year 11 have received a fantastic 1,410 achievement points so far this year. 1,049 of these have been awarded for working hard. Well done Year 11!!!

Passport to the Future (1) - Suzanne Paice.pdfThe Year11 Parent Information portal launches on Wednesday 9 October 2024 at 5.00 pm. This will be online. The portal will have a recorded presentation from Mrs Khan, Assistant Headteacher, which will provide you with an overview of the year ahead and there will also be overview videos for each subject. The videos will provide information about how the various courses are structured and assessed as well as how to support your child.
This portal will also be shared with students in assembly and via tutor slides. We will send you a link on the day the portal is launched.

If your young person is in receipt of the Post 16 Bursary, they can go to the Post 16 Library for breakfast from 8am every day. The food bank is also available to them so please encourage them to ask a member of the Post 16 Team who will be able to give them access.
We are running an in-community event on Friday 11 October in the Barton Hill Settlement from 11:30-12:30. This is an event for parents and carers of Year 12 or Foundation students. The event will give you top tips for supporting your young person's transition into Post 16 learning and will be an opportunity for you to speak to a member of the Post 16 Team who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Year 12 have been studying jars through their art elements of shape, tone, form and texture.
In these studies they used charcoal as their medium by blending out with brushes, different colours of background and working on a larger scale.
CUE is a popular, fun Drama Club running at Cotham School every Monday Evening.
We have an ACTING session and a MUSICAL THEATRE session. Members can do one or both sessions every Monday. Interested pupils just need to add their name to the sign up sheet in the Performing Arts Building.

For our students at Cotham School to access their full educational entitlement, regular attendance is imperative. We understand that there can be challenges to ensuring your child attends regularly.
It is equally important that all students arrive on time for the start of the school day. There is less chance of success if pupils are late for school. Only 15 minutes late each day adds up to 2 full weeks of education lost in one academic year.
Submit a poem to Google classroom (200 words max) inspired by the quote: "My identity doesn’t harm you. Respect my right to my identity and I will respect your right to yours." It can be handwritten or electronic, and visuals are welcome! 📝🎨 Four winners will each receive a £10 shopping voucher, chosen by Ms. Leong and Ms. Madge. Deadline: Monday 14 October. Winners' poems will be displayed in the hub. Good luck! 🌟
This week we are continuing to issue certificates to those of you always exhibiting the Cotham value of Respect! Well done to those of you who have received a certificate for this already.
We will also be having an inter-house sporting competition which will be announced very soon - please keep an eye out for this!
All students in each of the eleven Omega tutor groups had the opportunity to vote for their favourite charity, from a broad list of 6 local and national charities.
The overwhelming favourite and our new Omega house charity is Cancer Research UK. A worthy winner and one which will receive Omega House charity contributions in the future.

Apple have recently released their latest operating system, iOS 18. iOS 18 offers lots of new features (some are restricted to newer phones) but one feature that you should be aware of is the ability to now lock and hide apps.
When an app is locked, Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode will be required to open it. This also means that notifications will no longer be shown for that app. Additionally, apps can now be hidden so they can only be accessed through a hidden apps folder that is also locked. This new feature illustrates the need to have regular chats with your child about what they are using their phone for.
