Expectations of my students:

  1. They will need to treat people the way that they want to be treated.

  2. They will need to have respect for me and their fellow classmates.

  3. If a student misses my class, it will be up to the student to come to me to find out what classwork/assignments need to be made up.

  4. If a student is having a problem or issue, I would like him/her to come and see me so the issue can be resolved.

  5. My students need to be focused on the task at hand instead of discussing the upcoming social events.

  6. My students need to develop good time management skills so that they can balance out their academic, social, and family responsibilities.

  7. Homework assignments need to be completed on time.

  8. My students need to have good penmanship. We will be writing in cursive, and they need to form their letters correctly. On Spelling tests, each letter needs to be formed correctly or a point will be taken off.

  9. My students will need to have a Library Card in their name because the students will be working on term papers and other research assignments. Mrs. Messa is willing to help the students obtain a Library Card.

  10. My students will need to supply details and information as they are trying to communicate to others, whether it be verbally or in writing. The words, "stuff" and "things" will NOT be acceptable. Points will be deducted if the details/explanations are not provided. I want my students to use actions verbs, good descriptive adjectives, and adverbs. Minimal use of passive verbs (verb "to be") will be required.

  11. My students need to be prepared for class each day and bring the required material with them.

  12. My students need to take the time and study for their tests. They can not wait until the night before to study. They are given plenty of time to study for their tests. They also need to read the directions, and really go back and check their work. Many times my students just put a blue check mark next to each number without REALLY checking their work.

  13. Writing responses on tests need to be written in complete sentences with details/information.

  14. My students will be giving several presentations throughout the school year, as it is important that they are able to get up and speaking in front of people.

A Character Sketch

By: Mrs. Hayes

I am as tall and lean as a Ticonderoga pencil, and I am as sharp as a pencil can be. My short, curly, brown hair always rest peacefully above my shoulders and is never in a frazzle. My brown eyes resemble those Hershey kisses that everyone is always looking to enjoy. My peach lips and pearly white teeth glisten as I hit those high notes on stage. My long, narrow fingers allow me to always have a firm grip on the topics at hand. My size 11 shoe provides a firm foundation for understanding and comprehension.

My fancy footwork on the court may razzle and dazzle you, but do know that in the confines of my classroom, that same footwork is always willing to “do the hustle” until the job is done. As I stroll the hallways and my classroom, I always “speak softly but carry a big stick.” Normally, I do not have to say much to my students, when they are acting up, for all they need to do is look at the glare in my eyes. I greet my students with a gentle “Good Morning” each day for I do not know what they have experienced since they left my way. During the day, my students and I share a few giggles and laughs as we accomplish many tasks. As the school year comes to an end, my students always stop by to wish me a good summer before they turn the bend.
