Charge Redistribution in Oxide Heterostructures
Charge Redistribution in Oxide Heterostructures
What happens if we put two different oxides together? Their interface can reorganize charge and structure in unexpected ways, creating electronic or magnetic behavirors that neither material shows alone.
In our 2021 ACS Nano paper, my first published PhD work, carried out under the supervision of Prof. P. A. van Aken and Dr. Y. E. Suyolcu and made possible by the high-quality films grown by Dr. G. Logvenov, we showed how epitaxial strain influences the local charge distribution in manganite-cuprate heterostructures. By tuning the strain, we can modulate the charge and spin landscape in ways not seen in single-phase films, highlighting how interfacial strain control can engineer emergent oxide phenomena.
