Yiying Gloria Xiong

 PhD Candidate

Cornell University

Welcome! I am a PhD Candidate in the Government Department at Cornell University, a 2023-2024 Global Political Economy Project Predoctoral Fellow at Georgetown University's Mortara Center for International Studies, and a 2023-2024 Morgenthau Fellow (non-residential) at University of Notre Dame's International Security Center.

I study economic statecraft, sanctions, and the domestic politics of international relations, with a focus on China. My dissertation investigates the drivers and consequences of China's coercive statecraft.

My research has received generous support from the Smith Richardson Foundation, Ruth C. Lawson Fellowships at Mount Holyoke College, Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies, the Qualitative and Interpretive Research Institute and the Cornell Graduate School. Prior to Cornell, I received a B.A., magna cum laude, in Politics from Mount Holyoke College.
