Jessica Kaliher

Hello and welcome to my student portfolio! My name is Jessica Kaliher and I am a senior at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. In May 2019, I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics and a minor in Psychology.

My passion for nutrition began when I took health class my sophomore year of high school. My teacher taught us about the effects of added sugars, the importance of water, digestion, mental health, and more - topics that well surpass the traditional course requirements of a high school health class. I will always be grateful for this class because it opened my eyes and inspired me to better fuel my body as a busy teenager, not to mention it led me to where I am today, pursuing a career as a Registered Dietitian.

The connection between making food choices and mental health is apparent to me, which is why I am pursuing a minor in psychology as well. People struggle with fad diets into adulthood, and I want to provide clients with evidence-based information to help them see that living a healthy lifestyle should not be miserable, but an empowering decision one can make everyday. In saying this, I know nutritious food and exercise is not accessible to everyone. I want to be mindful in my recommendations and help to reduce food insecurity so that healthy options can be made available to all.
