When joining the Five Thousand Role Models of Excellence club, it took some time to realize the true meaning of this club. Going into the five thousand role models program, I was introduced to the club by a friend and only had the intentions of going on field trips and missing school. Although, upon being in the club I realized that the five thousand role models program is more than the ties, field trips, the food, and activities. This program is a brotherhood, as a brotherhood we’re raising young men to become leaders in our community.
When congresswoman Fredricka Wilson originally created this organization, it was for the hope that men of the future could build up, strengthen, and teach the future men how to become leaders within our society. A lot of us men come from broken families and broken homes with no male figures in their life to teach them how to become successful men. The five thousand role models program is here to keep our youth of today from ending up on the streets, continuing the cycles of their fathers and male figures who neglected to show them how to live as a real man. The five thousand role models program provides us young men with many opportunities such as scholarships and ways to manage our life for the future. As an IB student at Coral Reef Senior High School, it is a little difficult to balance school work with being a role model. There’s many important classes and activities I miss when attending field trips and club meetings, so it’s up to me to keep up with my school work and stay on top of my education. Yet this program works around our needs and complications, as long as we follow the rules of the club. When it comes to our attire, we must wear our red ties, white dress shirt, and black pants, shoes, socks, and belt. We must not untuck our shirts or take our ties off till we leave school as we represent our program proudly and wear our ties with pride.
