This can be more of a problem than you might expect, as obviously you don’t have the time for everything. You have to balance not procrastinating, getting good study time and sleep, while also making sure you're not neglecting your friends. Work is bound to take up a lot of time, but that doesn’t mean that it should be everything for you. Time for yourself and your friends is good and actually necessary, but at the same time while that can’t be neglected it shouldn’t get in the way of school performance. So how should things be balanced?
Something I’ve personally seen, even in myself, is that one of the biggest causes for procrastination or forgetting to do something is because you're too busy texting people. I know, sounds like something an old teacher would say, but it’s absolutely true. As much as keeping up with your friends is important, set up a good time slot for yourself where you can do things such as look at your phone or stray away from your work, or else all you’re doing is delaying the inevitable of staying up late and not giving your work your best. Allow yourself to have a set time or era of your day where you don’t look at your phone or when you don’t need to be out so that time you know you can focus.
While IB is advertised as all-work, it really isn’t and frankly shouldn’t be. Work can’t be the only thing that’s on your mind 24/7 whether IB or not. Keeping up friendships particularly is important, as it can be your outlet, stress-reliever, the way you have fun, it’s really endless! So due to that, try to not constantly be thinking about work, even on days off. When I said earlier that you can make time slots or schedules where you’re free, I mean it. Have a day where you go out, spend an hour or two calling people, do something that doesn’t make you focus on that APUSH homework that you’ve been dreading. Take some time off regularly to have breaks and socialize; it’s really way more important than you might think. You might think that it’ll just make you struggle more, but when you think about it, the more contacts you have, the more help you can get when you need it. Never neglect your time for other people purely for work. Set some time off whenever possible as long as you know you can manage it.
