Hey Cudas!
As per our IB learner profile, it is a requirement to be fluent in two languages. We have the options of Spanish, French, and German in Reef. Most of us choose to learn a new language we aren’t fluent in, and it can get overwhelming. Being surrounded by students who seem more fluent than you makes us feel incapable sometimes. The truth is, we’re all learning together, and some of us are more fluent in other aspects of the language. We are all capable of becoming fluent in our second language, and doing great on our IB exams! Here are some tips for indulging in this new language!
Tip #1: Change your phone language to the target language!
One of the best tools to use to learn a target language is our phones! We constantly use our phones, so by changing the language, we will be immersed in this language daily. By doing so, you will familiarize yourself with the language, and begin to learn more words. This is a good tip for reading and writing in the target language.
Tip #2: Listen to music!
One of the most helpful tips is listening to the language to perfect enunciation. Look up popular songs in the target language that are understandable. Take time to listen to the lyrics, and read the lyrics over. Sing along to the words. Listening to music 20 minutes a day in this language will be beneficial specifically when speaking.
Tip #3: Journal!
In order to better your writing skills, I suggest buying a journal and writing daily. It doesn’t have to be much, maybe about your day. Take this time to use your knowledge in order to form sentences, and look up words you don’t know yet. This will help you gain confidence in your writing.
Other tips can include watching shows, or even asking for help from your foreign language teacher! They’re here to help you! Happy learning! :)
