Us IB students, we get so entrenched in our work and studying that we lose sight of the things people do when they don’t have this immense workload upon them! However, it’s not exactly conducive to making and maintaining friendships the way we’re used to: constant texting and communication. So what are we lonely IB students to do?
Pen-pals for Dummies
We all know the pen pal. The person we write to through snail mail. But have we ever considered how good that actually is to make friends when we’re all stuck in this fast-paced world of studying and studying some more? Recently, I had a really good experience with this website, GeekGirlPenPals. Despite its name, all genders and non-geeks can join monthly matches for pen pals. And trust me, there’s nothing more satisfying than that. Once you get accustomed to writing snail mail and receiving a response, you literally can’t go back. Interested in writing snail mail for people in need and getting CAS in the process? No problem! For all my writers out there, I recommend Letters Against Isolation! It’s super nice writing for the elderly; plus, nothing beats keeping the tradition of good ol’ fashioned mail alive. Once you get started, you will never go back to sending a text again. Well, you probably will. I know I have! But at least it’s a fun hobby to keep up on the side, and you get to meet a friend! Nothing more rewarding than that. Send your first letter soon!
