IB Students! One of the main components of our IB diploma is CAS, which stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service. At first glance, the idea of community service monthly can be overwhelming, but with a bit of advice, you’ll have an easier time with the requirements!
On a general note, CAS is community service for IB students. The program aims to connect students to the community, and lead students on a personal journey of self-knowledge. The activities you focus on should be creative, active, or a service to the community. Some activities can also be a mix of two aspects, such as creativity and service, or all three! You must obtain a minimum of 100 hours throughout the course of 18 months, beginning your junior year.
Due to the pandemic, there are both virtual and physical opportunities for CAS. You should research to find organizations that you enjoy. Also, another option is asking fellow IB students where they receive their hours for the month. There are lots of CAS opportunities at school as well !
A great opportunity is writing an article for our very own IB in Need blog!
Some activities that give hours:
Art for Change (Virtual)
Love for our Elders (Virtual)
Key Club (Physical/Virtual)
Zoo Miami (Physical)
Interact Club (Physical/Virtual)
After the initial stress and the learning curve, CAS will become the easiest portion of the IB diploma. Happy giving back! :)
