Curating a Diverse Classroom Library

Session by:  Heidi Knuuttila, CCISD Literacy Coach

Location: CCISD Main Building - Conference Room B

Learners who are motivated and engaged in literacy activities are more likely to learn and experience positive outcomes and achievement. Ideal classroom libraries include books that are mirrors (students see themselves reflected), windows (students see accurate depictions of others’ experiences), and sliding glass doors (students see the possibilities and opportunities open to them).

During this session, participants will do a deep dive into the power of a diverse classroom library, develop ideas to build and sustain their own classroom libraries, and have the opportunity to preview a wide selection of books.
