When it comes to looking for the perfect blend of luxury, style and performance the Infiniti G37 is certain to be a top contender. Sold from 2009-2013, this is a sleek platform that effortlessly blends style and performance. With both a coupe and sedan version available, the G37 fulfills almost every need a driver could have (other than hauling trailers or heavy rock crawling).
Under the hood, the G37 boasts a powerful 3.7 liter V6 VQ37VHR-series engine and rear wheel drive (RWD) which deliver exhilarating driving. With 328 horsepower at your command, merging on the highway or taking off from a stop light quickly becomes a thrilling experience rather than a boring task where you need to put your foot to the floor just to keep up with traffic. Responsive handling and smooth acceleration truly makes the G37 a one-of-a-kind taste of luxury you’ll never forget—at a price that won’t break the bank.
From the instantly recognizable front end to the sleek body lines, the G37 exudes a sophisticated design that isn’t just for the streets. It would also class up a visit to a nice restaurant or a business meeting. The aerodynamics enhance the visual appeal and also contribute to performance. This car will definitely stand out in traffic.
Inside the cabin, the G37 doesn’t disappoint. It comes equipped with advanced technology features, such as an infotainment setup that holds its own against modern systems. Infiniti did not neglect comfort when designing this car, as the plushy leather seats hold you firmly in place during aggressive driving. While the coupe does offer a backseat, it’s functionally unusable for any trip longer than about 10-15 minutes (or for anyone over 5’7”) and was included in order to keep insurance costs down.
The G37 remains an affordable sports car, but overall costs may be prohibitive for some drivers. These cars require (you might even say deserve) a driver with experience, and prices are on the rise as more and more of these models are getting destroyed or totaled due to driver error and poor maintenance. Finding a G37 that hasn’t been abused is becoming increasingly rare. Operating and maintenance costs may also run high depending on the mileage and usage history. Add on the costs of premium fuel and higher monthly insurance premiums and this is one car which may inspire you to seek that lucrative promotion at work.
While the G37 is undeniably an incredible car it does come with some other caveats. The VQ is known to have issues with the oil gallery gasket in the 2009-2012 model years. The gasket is mounted beneath the timing cover and when the gasket begins to fail the oil will begin to seep. This leads to an oil pressure drop that will cause engine failure if not taken care of immediately. The VQ is also known to be very high-end torque focused. One thing people can’t seem to forgive is the trombone-like exhaust note, but with a carefully selected aftermarket exhaust a great sounding car isn’t impossible to achieve. Some other common parts that may need attention around the 150k mile mark include the water pump, chain guide and tensioner.
