The end of our time draws near,
and over the course of this year,
we have not yet discussed
an art met with occasional disgust.
Musicals are not beloved by some,
finding their quirks to be rather dumb.
I, however, do not share this point of view,
so I shall share the tale of Christian Borle with you.
Borle is a man of humble origin,
though his rise had no comparison.
He attended schools of relative normalcy.
His first acting gig? An elf, in Macy’s.
Once in New York, his acting career began,
and he was given chances he took like a man.
He performed in several small shows,
as the star within would grow and glow.
In 2000 he made his Broadway debut:
In “Jesus Christ Superstar” his star shone through.
His first big role was in “Spamalot,”
and several awards he nearly got.
My interest began in 2008,
in a musical that no one could hate.
“Legally Blonde” is beloved by all,
and Christian Borle received his call.
He was Emmett Forrest, the male lead.
And with this, he declared the actor’s creed.
Protagonist Elle Woods’ future fiancé:
the perfect role for Borle to play.
His career is not limited to the stage, you know:
He starred in NBC’s “Smash” TV show.
As a show about a musical’s production,
ignoring Borle would have been a reduction.
Borle’s fame continued to rise ever higher,
and his dedication never seemed to tire.
Now a legend in the musical scene,
from him, there is a lot I could glean.
And with that, Playing Pretend comes to an end.
I deeply thank you for your time, dear friend.
Please, save your roses;
For now, the curtain closes.
