People often complain that there is nothing to do in Ohio. A fun new activity that people can try is splatter painting. Splatter painting is when participants throw paint toward a blank canvas using different tools and brushes. 

Street Craftery is a new ‘creative destination’ that recently opened in downtown Akron. I went with some friends from one of my extracurricular activities to try it out. I had such a good time, especially since I ended up covered in paint (Although Street Craftery supplies smocks, you will still get paint on yourself).

When we walked in we saw tables and different pieces of artwork hung on the walls. The owner has shelves full of mementos for sale. It felt magical, with an “Alice Through the Looking Glass” feel. There was music playing and an aroma of vanilla and cinnamon filled the air. 

The staff was so nice and welcoming. They started off by explaining how everything worked, provided us with smocks if we wanted them and finally gave each of us a black canvas. After that, one by one, we each got our turn to go into a designated room to splatter paint. Painting felt great. It was so relaxing and fun, especially with the music blasting. I mainly used different hues of blue, white and black. 

My group was dancing and hyping each other up as we painted. We took so many photos. The experience fulfilled my expectations and we will definitely return. In addition to splatter painting, Street Craftery also offers sewing, pottery and paint dipping activities. If you want or need a break, this experience could be an excellent stress reliever for aspiring artists of all ages.
