A double cheeseburger and fries from Skyway: one of the meals tested in this comparison.
Chick-fil-A vs. Raising Cane’s, Burger King vs. McDonald’s and Subway vs. Jimmy John’s are all classic showdowns, but there is one that Copley has been particularly hungry for: SWENSONS VS. SKYWAY.
Many students go out to eat with friends, and most want something between a sit-down and fast food restaurant that is also forgiving on a highschooler’s wallet. Swensons and Skyway are both reasonably priced drive-in establishments, and the debate over which is superior has raged for years. Drumbeat sent me out to answer this question once and for all.
I visited each establishment to determine who offers better food and a higher quality experience. Wanting this experiment to be as fair and unbiased as possible, I assessed the overall time and quality of service and ordered equivalent food at each restaurant: a double cheeseburger with ketchup, regular sized fries and an Oreo milkshake. I also went to each establishment on a different day to not have the flavor of one meal influence the next.
I timed how long it took from when I parked to the time I got my food. It took 14 minutes at Swensons and 13 minutes at Skyway.
To test the quality of service I timed how long it took for someone to take my order and how friendly the employee was while interacting with me. While Swensons’ service was perfectly adequate, the employee was bland in their interaction with me and I got the impression that they would rather be at home.

To compare the cheeseburgers I rated flavor, appearance, texture and price. I applied the four categories to both burgers and enjoyed the Swensons burger more than the Skyway burger overall due to better taste. Obviously neither burger knocked my socks off with their appearance, and the Swensons’ burger’s bun looked man-handled.
For fries, I rated flavor, appearance, crunch/grease and price. I applied the four categories to both fries and enjoyed Swenson's fries more overall due to the crunch and flavor. Skyway’s fries were too greasy and had no crunch whatsoever, very unpleasant.

For milkshakes, I rated flavor, drinkability/density and price. I applied the three categories to both milkshakes and enjoyed Skyway’s milkshake more overall due to the rich flavor and the greater ease of drinking it. Swensons’ milkshake was delicious in its own way, but it didn’t move through the straw until I waited almost five minutes. If you cannot drink it, why buy it?
While Skyway won more categories overall, three to two, the superior flavor of the Swensons cheeseburger and fries wins. Quick and friendly service is important, but the quality of the food is most important to high schoolers.
If you want a fantastic meal that will have you craving more, head over to Swensons. Skyway is the place to go for speedy, outstanding customer service. My personal favorite, and the establishment I deem the winner, is Swensons for their food that bursts with flavor.
