for any student and family member in need of additional help or guidance with a mental health concern.
As a community, we need to care for our youth through listening for any warning signs of distress (concern about a student's behavior and/or concern about other's mistreatment of a student) and speaking up when we are worried about another's mental health.

Suicide is an uncomfortable topic to think about and discuss, but one that is a very real risk in the lives of our students.
Among youth ages 10-24, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death
Research has shown that at least 17% of high school students have seriously considered suicide and 8% have attempted suicide
The unfortunate reality is that suicide can happen to any young person in any family.
It can be hard to know how to address difficult topics, such as mental health and suicide, with adolescents. However, we know that these conversations are crucial for keeping our kids safe and healthy.

Learning standards explain the knowledge and skills Ohio students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 need to have. Ohio’s Learning Standards emphasize skills like critical thinking and problem solving — qualities most sought by today’s employers. By teaching our students to apply these skills to what they are learning in school, we can make sure they are on track to graduate from high school and enjoy success in college, careers and life.
Ohio measures the performance of its schools based on how well students are progressing in gaining the knowledge and skills within the learning standards. We do this partly by measuring student performance on annual state tests based on the standards.
