Happy Winter Kindergarten Families!

Returning to school after a break is a great time to revisit classroom routines and expectations. The most challenging is still giving each other three feet of distance. This week we have started a hole punch card for making good choices focusing on being kind and calm. Prompting your child about our zones of regulation and making kind choices is a great way to start each day!

In literacy, we have learned 28 sight words. Make a sight word wall at home with sticky notes!

  • I, am, the, little, a, to, in, it, be, can, have, is, like, we, my, he, for, and, me, with, see, she, look, you, of, they, that, this, are, and

We are focusing on emerging writing skills with our play plan journals. With reminders to stretch out words and hear all of the sounds, check to see if letters are tall or small, and make spaces between words.

  • Support our writing by stretching words and counting the sounds. For example, you would say flat and they would segment f/l/a/t - four sounds!

During math we are counting up to 100 each day, rounding the decades can be tough but with practice, we will think of tens and ones with ease. This is a great activity for the car, commercials, or the bathroom.

  • If counting up and back from 20 is mastered, start at a higher number. Practice forward and backward. Add to the tens place and the ones.

  • “If I have 7 but I want to have 10, what do I need to do?” work on friends of five and ten!

We are also using the number as a tool to represent number stories. Pull out the hidden partners and find the total by adding on!
