They are independent problem solvers, and contribute their impressive copy and narrative chops to help craft high-quality and engaging content that performs.
You’ll find that your Managing Editor acts as an extension of your team. They will manage the on-the-ground execution of your content program and will know your content strategy backwards and forwards.
Initiate the story-creation process
Establish and/or enforce quality & standards
Solicit and approve/decline pitches with feedback for writers
Help establish an editorial calendar that aligns with customer’s content plan
Keep customer’s content strategy up-to-date in the Contently platform
Edit content for grammar, spelling, tone, voice; verify facts, dates, statistics, and edit as needed to improve readability
Freelancer management: source and staff writers, communicate expectations, answer questions, clarify briefs, enforce deadlines, etc.
Project pricing and assigning
First line of defense for reviewing raw copy from freelancer’s first draft
Enforce compliance to the publication’s style, content strategy, editorial policy, and publishing requirements with writers
Manage content workflow
Ideation for new and re-purposed content
Provide editorial and talent updates during status calls, including communicating with customer regarding changes in agreed-upon delivery dates
Proactively avoid bottlenecks to ensure production is not delayed or disrupted
Advise on new services or content formats that Contently offers and that make sense for customer’s content plan
Assist with coordinating staffng, pricing, and workflows for rush jobs
