January - Weekly Information

📚Reading: Kindergarten students will be reading fiction stories, focusing on listening to the story to identify the key details and important parts of the story. 

✏️Writing: Kindergartener students will write narratives this month. Students will work on writing a story generating ideas for stories by thinking of special places, special people, strong feelings, and looking back at special memories. Kindergarten students will also focus on improving writing conventions, such as using an uppercase letter only at the beginning of a sentence, using a period to end their sentences, and spelling using grade-appropriate spelling patterns (using their sounds to spell words).  

🔢Mathematics:  Students will continue joining and separating sets up to 10 as we return to school. We will then spend two weeks learning about 3Dimensional shapes and their attributes. We will end the month by learning about numbers 11-20. Counting out loud to 100 is an awesome thing to practice together.

🔬Science: Students will explore weather and seasons during Science time. 

🌎Social Studies: After a long winter break, students will review the importance of having and following rules and procedures. Please reinforce to your child that they come to school to learn. We will then begin our history unit in January and continue in February, focusing on historical figures such as Martin Luther King, Jr., George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln.

Please make sure that your child has a change of clothes in their backpack. We do not have extra clothes available in case of an accident or emergency.

Cold weather is coming! Please make sure your child's name is written on their jacket!

Middle of the year testing is happening during the month of January. Teachers will be reaching out with concerns once completed. 

January 20th - School Holiday

January 30th - 100th day of school!
