February - Weekly Information

📚Reading: This month students will read and write procedural texts. Procedural texts, or 'how-to' books, teach us how to do something. We will then end the month by beginning our poetry unit. 

✏️Writing: Students will be teachers this month during writing time. They will be teaching their reader how to do something that they are an expert at doing (ex: how to feed fish, how to make cereal, how to brush your teeth). 

🔢Mathematics: We are working with teen numbers during the month of February. Students will build and break apart numbers and compare numbers using comparative language, such as 'more than' and 'less than.'

🔬Science: Students will focus on the chronological order that things happen and observing patterns in nature, such as seasons and day/night. 

🌎Social Studies: February is Black History Month and we will be learning about the historical contributions of many black Americans, such as Rosa Parks and Simone Biles. We will also learn about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as we observe Presidents Day. We will end the month by beginning our unit on Texas. 

Please make sure that your child has a change of clothes in their backpack. We do not have extra clothes available in case of an accident or emergency.

Cold weather is coming! Please make sure your child's name is written on their jacket!
