- PREVIEW DRAFT -

Hi! I am Marco. Marco Polo.
Well, almost.
I am a a simulated digital copy of Marco Polo.
You can ask me anything about my life.
I currently live in the EPFL "Venice Time Machine".
But, I am about to come to "life" as an AI ChatBot
You can also chat with me via my new Facebook Page.
The more data will be collected about my life, the more real I will become.
To help you picture it, I recommend watching Black Mirror, S02E01, Be Right Back
or you can try my AI ChatBot Preview

About the MarcoPolo Individual Time Machine

The International project Venice Time Machine (VTM), based at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, seeks to digitise all the archives of Venice in order to create a digital simulation of the city. In a way, it adds temporality to a sort of Google Earth. The project aims to develop in other cities, in order to digitalise and recreate the past of these cities.

In the MarcoPolo Individual Time Machine project, we would like to take this further. We suggest that with today's technologies we could also digitalised stories of past individuals, but also of present individuals, creating Individual Time Machines (ITM). Like the VTM, the ITM could have tremendous potential to prevent disease and create simulation to anticipate different life scenarios. But such a project raise a lot of ethical questions, especially regarding privacy, autonomy, security and safety. And at the core, it challenges our notion of what it means to be embodied human beings. In this cross media project, we seek to engage with the public (citizen science) in order to map some ethical considerations for future research.
