Thirteen Reasons Project
We have exactly thirteen days left before our Winter Break. And we have exactly thirteen students in our class. As we count down these last days before we start our three-week holiday, AND as we count down the final days we'll be together in 2017, we've decided to begin a class project titled, "Thirteen Reasons."
The Thirteen Reasons Project is a way to give life to our classmates. We've been challenging each other to spread kindness in all that we say and do. This week we realized that when we are kind, we make another person feel good, but we also feel good. It's a win-win situation!
As part of our project, one student is chosen each day. At our Circle Time, each student will share one reason why he or she loves the student of the day. We will also brainstorm character traits and adjectives to describe the special student and use these powerful words to create a Wordle Art print.

Kate
13. Kate is a sweet and sensitive girl. I am really glad that she joined our class this year. She brings a lot of laughter to our class.
12. I like Kate because when she doesn't know things, she asks for help. And I like being able to help her.
11. I like having Kate in class because she is thinking a lot about what she says so that she doesn't say anything rude. When she speaks she talks about very creative things.
10. I like Kate because when someone is looking for a friend to play with, she joins them. And she is a good dancer.
9. Kate asks questions politely and speaks quietly. In class she asks a lot of questions. She is friendly!
8. Kate is like an angel because she is kind and helpful. She isn't angry towards other people.
7. I like Kate in class because she is kind. She makes good choices.
6. Kate is when we do sleepovers at my house she says she likes my mom's cooking. At school she is kind to other people.
5. I like Kate because she is sensitive and a kind girl. She takes care of people and helps them.
4. Kate doesn't say, "I don't know." She says, "I don't know this YET." She is kind and has a growth mindset.
3. I like Kate because she has good sportsmanship and is good in P.E.
2. I like Kate in class because she plays fair in P.E. and outside.
1. I like having Kate in class because even when everyone is doing their own thing, she follows the rules and gets ready to learn.
Jeny
13. I like Jeny in class because she is funny. She has been sharing her squishy toys with us for circle time.
12. I like Jeny in class becasue she has lots of ideas. She had a great idea to pass notes to Hye Ryu with a basket.
11. I like Jeny because she is helpful. When someone is sad she can encourage them. She pays attention to lonely students and helps them.
10. I like having Jeny because she is very kind and helpful. She makes a lot of friends even when people aren't expecting it.
9. I like Jeny because she will play with anybody.
8. Jeny is nice. She finishes her work in time. She likes Christmas. She has a lot of friends.
7. I like Jeny because she is creative. She never fights and she keeps the peace.
6. I love Jeny because she's lovely and pretty.
5. Jeny doesn't argue with people. This is a very good thing about her.
4. I like Jeny because she is playful and smiles at people.
3. Jeny is helpful to me. She is a good friend.
2. Jeny is pretty nice. She shares with people.
1. I like Jeny because she is a great dancer. Maybe she will grow up to be a superstar. She is a positive force in our class and in the school.
thomas
13. Thomas has a gentle spirit and a kind heart. He also has a wonderful sense of humor and brings a lot of joy to our class.
12. I like Thomas because he is smart. He helps other people by making funny jokes and making people laugh.
11. The reason I like Thomas is because he is good at coding and he is cute.
10. I like having Thomas in my class because he always has something going on in his brain, but it is always a good something. He is always listening. He has a good sense of humor. I also enjoy having him because he is a good friend.
9. I like Thomas because he is kind. When I want to play at recess he plays with me.
8. Thomas is cute and makes many people laugh. He's good at making duck noises.
7. I like Thomas because he is funny and makes me laugh. He is smart and he can help me in class. He is very cute!
6. I like Thomas because he is goofy and brings lots of laughter to our class.
5. I like having Thomas in class because he is awesome and kind. He always says, "Let's play together."
4. Thomas is one of the boys who breaks the wall between boys and girls.
3. I like Thomas because he is pretty cute and he is friendly.
2. I like Thomas because he likes Peppa Pig and I like Peppa Pig, too.
1. I like having Thomas in class because he never gets angry. He always smiles.
Hye Ryu
13. Hye Ryu is a positive girl who leads by example. She acts like a big sister in our class. She is mature.
12. I like Hye Ryu because she has lots of ideas. She's good at playing Doctor Dodgeball in PE.
11. Hye Ryu always has a big smile. She makes other people happy.
10. Hye Ryu is smart. She helps me spell hard words.
9. I like Hye Ryu because during some of the days for this project she gave really good reasons for why she likes other people.
8. I like Hye Ryu in class because she is always happy and she doesn't argue with other people.
7. Hye Ryu is a nice girl to have in class because she is happy and fun to play with at recess. Sometimes she likes to dance with the girls.
6. I like Hye Ryu because this year I am new and she plays with me. It is good to have a friend like her because she is kind.
5. Hye Ryu has good handwriting. She plays with many friends, not just me.
4. I like Hye Ryu because she is funny. She has a good sense of humor.
3. I like Hye Ryu in class because she is often fair. She doesn't go along with silly things.
2. I like Hye Ryu because she is always laughing. I like her because she is funny and she makes me laugh a lot. She's my best friend.
1. Hye Ryu doesn't argue about things. She speaks kind words.
yewon
13. I like Yewon because when nobody is following the rules, she tries to help them to do the right thing. She always tries to do her best!
12. Yewon will be friendly with me when I feel lonely. SHe always gives me someone to play with.
11. Yewon is very nice. Even when someone is bossy, she does her own thing and ignores them.
10. Yewon is smart. She helps other people.
9. Yewon is kind and helpful. In Science, she was my partner and she helped me. I liked working with her.
8. I like Yewon because she is helpful. When I am sad she knows it and she cheers me up. Other people don't notice, but she notices and she encourages me.
7. I like having Yewon in class because she is smart and has helped me before.
6. Yewon is respectful. She doesn't speak out against anyone if they aren't doing the right thing. She'll help people when they need help.
5. Yewon doesn't cheat and she encourages other people not to cheat either.
4. Yewon is cute and smart and likes to play with all of the children, not just one group.
3. I like Yewon being in class because she is thoughtful. She thinks about the things she is saying.
2. Yewon is funny. She has a beautiful smile, too
1. Yewon always goes above and beyond to do things well and with care. She cares about people and is very kind and empathetic. It's wonderful to see how gentle she is with everyone.
Tae hyun
13. I like Tae Hyun because he thinks carefully about what he says. He sticks up for people and doesn't let anyone be bullied. He also don't put up a wall of boys versus girls. Not many boys do that.
12. He is funny and laughs a lot. He makes a lot of jokes.
11. Tae Hyun is friendly and plays with me.
10. I like having Tae Hyun in class because he is cute and nice. He can be funny and kind. And he speaks kindly to people.
9. Tae Hyun is one of the boys who plays with boys or girls. Tae Hyun is nice and doesn't try to annoy the girls or be mean to the girls. He is fair, too.
8. I like Tae Hyun because he isn't crazy. He is really nice.
7. Tae Hyun is helpful and looks for ways to help people. He really cares for other people and puts his friends first.
6. I like Tae Hyun in class because sometimes he does magic and it's cool to see.
5. I like Tae Hyun because he is smart. He helps me when I don't know things.
4. I like Tae Hyun in class because he is gentle and thoughtful. He cares about people. He's happy-go-lucky. He doesn't listen when people say bad words.
3. I like Tae Hyun because when we talk about something he has lots of words to make things fun.
2. Tae Hyun helped me when I got hurt. He helps others right away.
1. Tae Hyun has a caring heart. He truly cares about people and wants to bring joy into this world. He is a peace-keeper.
eun seong
13. Eun Seong is really good at catching bugs. When the girls see bugs outside, he will come to take the bug and put it in the grass.
12. I like having Eun Seong in class because he is powerful. He's really good at soccer.
11. Eun Seong is smart and he really likes Science and catching bugs and exploring nature.
10. He is smart and I liked seeing the robot that he built. His robot could move.
9. I think Eun Seong is kind. He gave me a card before and it was a nice thing to do.
8. I like Eun Seong because he is a lot of fun to have in class. He is fun to be around. He is careful about the words he uses so he doesn't say anything mean to another person. He's a good person.
7. When Eun Seong laughs, I laugh, too. He is also very strong. He is good at teaching math.
6. One reason I like having Eun Seong in class because he is funny. When Ms. Gunay was measuring his neck in math class he was very funny because it tickled him and he pretended to rip the paper she was using.
5. Eun Seong likes to make people laugh. It is nice to laugh at school and laugh with people.
4. He is a fair player of games and he never cheats. It's good to play games with him.
3. Having Eun Seong in class is great because he is kind to me.
2. I think Eun Seong is strong and very good at Math and Science
1. Eun Seong follows the rules and always tries to do his best. When other students might be doing their own thing, Eun Seong tries to do what is right and it's a good example for others.
Nghia
13. Nghia is a terrific person. He works really hard at keeping soccer games fair, and he likes to help out his friends. I learn a lot from him about how to keep things fair. He makes me want to just enjoy being friends and not worry about competition.
12. Nghia is easy-going. He doesn't talk a lot at lunch about nothing like some of the others.
11. Nghia was in my group once for math. When everyone finished their work and I was stuck, he waited for me and helped me finish.
10. When we play games at P.E., he plays fair. When we play "Doctor" and he gets out, he sits down and waits for the doctor when he is out.
9. I like having Nghia in my class because he helps me.
8. Nghia is really smart. He's also good at soccer.
7. Nghia is smart, but even though he knows a lot, he doesn't act like a show-off. He doesn't tease others if they don't know as much as him.
6. He is good at playing games. He plays fair and he doesn't complain if his team loses. He is also really good at multiplication.
5. I like Nghia in our class because he is my partner in Science and he is really nice.
4. Nghia is great because he chooses the right way to act.
3. I like Nghia because he is happy-go-lucky because when someone says something bad or says something bad about him, he doesn't care. He just goes on.
2. Nghia is humble and trust-worthy. I like him because he is honest.
1. I like Nghia because he is teaching us a lot about Viet Nam. He's very passionate about his country and it's nice to learn more.
Leonor
13. Leonor has a lot of passion. Whatever she does, she does with all her heart, and with a positive attitude. I've never heard her say anything negative.
12. Leonor is very kind. She is a girl in class who has been kind to me because she says nice things to me.
11. I like to have Leonor in the class because she is always telling people, "You can do it!" and she is never saying rude things. And she can make people laugh.
10. I like Leonor because she is very friendly to others. She always helps people when things are hard and she comes to them and says, "Are you okay?"
9. I like Leonor in our class because when I don't have someone to play with, she comes to play with me.
8. Leonor is kind and helpful.
7. When we play a math game and Leonor is on my team, she lets other people go first and she helps me.
6. I like Leonor being in my class because she is friendly and she comes to say something nice.
5. Sometimes when we need a pencil or an eraser, she says, "You can have mine."
4. I like Leonor because she nevers bothers me or other people.
3. Leonor never argues about things and she is kind to every one.
2. I like Leonor being in my class because she doesn't fight with anyone.
1. I like Leonor because she is playful and kind. At recess time she is energetic.
duy
13. Duy is a student who is thoughtful and reflective about everything in life. Before he speaks or answers questions, he thinks about what he wants to say. Duy is also an incredible cheerful boy who has a great laugh and a cute face.
12. Duy is a good speller. He is also a good teacher and friend to people because he shares what he knows about the computer and helps us make cool desktop backgrounds.
11. I like Duy because he is athletic. It's fun to watch him on the soccer field. He shows good sportsmanship.
10. Duy is very smart because he went around-the-world in our multiplication game.
9. I like Duy because he helps us when we make mistakes and he helps us learn without judging us.
8. Duy is kind and he helps us when we are hurt or need help.
7. I like Duy in my class because he helps people and works hard at his schoolwork.
6. Duy helped me when I needed help. He is friendly.
5. I like Duy in my class because when we can't understand things, he will help us out and help us figure out what we don't know.
4. Duy is helpful and he looks on the bright side of life. He doesn't look at the negative things. I like having Duy in class because he is making me a better person who is more positive like him.
3. He's sporty and athletic and he's a good goal-keeper. He likes Peppa Pig and I like Peppa Pig, too.
2. Duy is very organized, thinks positive and he's a good writer.
1. Duy is thoughtful and he doesn't argue a lot. Duy is a good friend. He's been a good friend to me since the first day of school to help me and translate words for me.
Colton
13. I like Colton in my class because when we have problems, he can say that he is sorry and we can solve our problems.
12. I like Colton in my class because he is funny and sometimes he helps people when they have hard work.
11. I like Colton because he is funny and he doesn't give up easily.
10. Colton makes everybody laugh.
9. Colton makes people in the class laugh when there is something bad happening.
8. I like Colton because every time he can make me laugh and I can laugh once or twice a day.
7. Colton teaches me a lot of English. He is the only native speaker in our class and we need him.
6. In soccer, Colton is fair and he knows how to make good teams.
5. Colton is funny in class and he also teaches me things.
4. I like having Colton because he helps people. For example, if someone doesn't know something, he helps them out.
3. Colton always makes me laugh.
2. I appreciate having Colton in class because he is a deep thinker and has reflective thoughts to share. When he decides to make good choices, he shows strong leadership qualities.
1. Colton is responsible and he is the first person to step up to help others when they are injured or need help. He is serious about keeping people safe.
aimi
13. Aimi is a kind person. She is helpful because she teaches me how to do things I don't know.
12. I like Aimi being in my class because she always gets my notebook and puts it on my desk so I don't have to stand in line.
11. Aimi lets people borrow her things when they don't have their own. I think that she
10. Aimi always smiles a lot. She is kind and helpful to me.
9. It is nice to have Aimi in my class because she will play with students who don't have anyone to play with and she's kind in this way.
8. Aimi has a very gentle and caring spirit. She is a quiet student but she has a big heart. I also think that she has a big smile and I love seeing it!
7. Aimi and Jeny and others like to dance and it's fun to see them perform.
6. I like Aimi because she is kind, helpful, and playful. She is good at dancing.
5. On days when I am annoyed or don't feel good, I like hearing Aimi's little giggles in the back of the classroom. It's nice to have her around because of her gentleness. She's always laughing and I like to chase her.
4. With Aimi in our class I love seeing her each day. She shares her snack with Maria. She is big-hearted!
3. She is not selfish and she shares her things. She helped me learn some new things in math.
2. I like having Aimi in class because when the boys get angry, she ignores them and stays happy. She doesn't let others bother her.
1. Aimi is honest. She helps keep other people honest, too. If something bad happens, Aimi will make sure that the teacher knows what happened so we can find a solution.
Maria
13. I like having Maria in class because she helps me and she is thoughtful. When I don't know something, she helps me. She's thoughtful because she encourages me.
12. She helps people in math and science. She is smart because she explains how to solve a problem so that they understand it.
11. I like Maria because when I don't have many friends, she comes to play with me.
10. I like Maria because she is kind because when there is a problem, she never makes the problem bigger. She works to make the problem go away.
9. Maria is smart and very fast as a runner.
8. Maria is kind. When I fell down at recess, she came over to help me and ask if I was okay.
7. I like having Maria in my class because she is thoughtful. She is friendly to everyone.
6. Maria is forgiving. When something happens, she will accept the apology and forget about it. She won't be mean back to that student.
5. She wants others to succeed and so she encourages them. I think this is awesome.
4. She is kind and cute. It's not just about me, but about how she treats all friends. She's kind to everyone. Even though she plays more with the girls, she is still kind.
3. Maria is never angry. She takes care of people. If someone laughs, she joins them and they laugh together. It makes me feel good to hear her laugh.
2. Maria is a gentle and sensitive girl. I love seeing how she puts other people first and using her sensitivity to be empathetic to others. And she has a heart of gold.
