Columbus Academy recognizes the variety of new opportunities and challenges AI brings. AI tools can have benefits while, at the same time, potentially hindering the process of student learning. They can be used in exciting and potentially valuable ways to help facilitate and personalize learning, supplement skills, streamline lesson planning, and make learning more equitable.
CA strives to continuously evaluate our program through an educational lens that balances skills like creativity, context, divergent thinking, and empathy (things that AI does not do well) with the potential efficiencies and capabilities of AI. These guidelines will be used to determine when, where, how, and why AI is used at Columbus Academy as we maintain a spirit of openness and experimentation while simultaneously being mindful that some assessments and performance tasks must be designed to ensure that students complete them without using AI tools.
In all cases, we will seek to engage with AI safely, ethically, and effectively. Full details of the Columbus Academy A.I. policy is linked here.
