{Franklin County Auditor's Office} Internships
The Franklin County Auditor’s Office will host intern cohorts made up of high school and college students as well as recent graduates who are no more than one year past graduation. Cohorts will work on a general semester calendar listed below and may work more than one semester if all parties agree to an additional term. High school internships are open to any students with an interest in the office. High school students are required to have transportation and will be treated as adults. High school students will rotate between participating departments in order to provide exposure to as many different operations of the Auditor’s office as possible and increase government engagement. High school interns that express an interest in one department over others will have the opportunity to be placed in that department, encouraging interns to get the most out of their experience.

A research volunteer is anyone who volunteers or donates his/her services by observing or assisting with research projects on behalf of The Ohio State University and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center without receiving course credit or compensation from OSU/OSUWMC for these activities. This may include students, community members and employees (in limited circumstances). Qualified research volunteers can provide meaningful assistance in laboratory, clinical or translational research settings while benefiting from educational enrichment opportunities.
{Ohio State University} John Glenn College of Public Affairs High School Internship Program
The John Glenn College of Public Affairs High School Internship Program is a unique public service internship program that allows high school students in the fall term of their senior year to gain first-hand experience within organizations in the public service sector. In addition to completing an internship, Glenn Interns also enroll in a section of Public Affairs 2110 at The Ohio State University as part of the Ohio State Academy program and earn college credit. The course provides an overview of the field of public affairs while examining American democracy and the nature and reason for public service. As part of the seminar, students also complete an individual or group research project on a public policy issue of their choosing. The seminar requires students to be enrolled in the OSU Academy.

Developed to inspire, engage and mentor the next generation of cancer researchers, the Cancer Research Experience for the Advancement and Training of Emerging Scientists (CREATES) is an eight-week funded summer research experience for rising high school seniors from underrepresented in medicine backgrounds.
{Ohio State University} Explorations in Neuroscience Research Internship Program
The Explorations in Neuroscience Research Internship Program is a National Institute of Health (NIH) funded program that provides an opportunity for high school students to experience biomedical research and learn from trained mentors during a 7-week paid internship. Participants will gain hands-on research experience in Neuroscience, Neurological Injury, or Neurodegeneration while exploring Neuroscience as an undergraduate major and career choice.
{Ohio State University} Manufacturing and Materials Joining Innovation Center (Ma2JIC) Summer Internship
The Manufacturing and Materials Joining Innovation Center (Ma2JIC) is hosting a paid Summer Internship Program for high school students. This program matches high school students with current graduate students to assist with an on-going research project related to Welding Engineering. Welding Engineering is a type of materials engineering that focuses on all aspects of creating a weld. You might have heard of welders using heat and pressure to fuse pieces of metal together, but welding engineers work on the design and application of the weld so that welders can manufacture them. Ma2JIC is housed within The Ohio State University’s College of Engineering, Welding Engineering program and it is funded by an award from the National Science Foundation which encourages the inclusion of underrepresented groups in STEM education programs.The center works in collaboration with four other universities in the United states and Canada. Ma2JIC also has many industry partners, so interns will be exposed to industry relevant research at a major academic research institution.

{Short North Stage} Performance Internships
In this audition based program we select high school students from around central Ohio to participate in masterclasses, talkbacks, showcases performances, and more to hone their craft and learn more about being a theater professional. These interns also get the chance to be considered for roles throughout the season in our mainstage shows and gain volunteer hours with other opportunities to help out around the theater.

{Air Force Research Laboratory} Scholars Program
The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Scholars Program offers stipend-paid internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate-level university students pursuing STEM degrees, as well as upper-level high school students; select locations also offer internships to university students pursuing education-related degrees and K–12 professional educators. The selected interns gain valuable hands-on experiences working with full-time AFRL scientists and engineers on cutting-edge research and technology and are able to contribute to unique, research-based projects. Graduate interns are able to collaborate with AFRL on current research and incorporate the research into their graduate work.
{Army Educational Outreach Program} High School Apprenticeship Program
HSAP provides current rising high school juniors and seniors with an authentic science and engineering research experience alongside university researchers sponsored by the Army Research Office. Though this commuter program, students will learn research methods and develop skills in Army critical research areas in a university lab setting, preparing them for the next steps of their educational and professional career.
{Army Educational Outreach Program} Research & Engineering Apprenticeship Program
REAP is a summer STEM program that places talented high school students, from groups historically underserved in STEM, in research apprenticeships at area colleges and universities. REAP apprentices work under the direct supervision of a mentor on a hands-on research project. REAP apprentices are exposed to the real world of research, they gain valuable mentorship, and they learn about education and career opportunities in STEM. REAP apprenticeships are 5-8 weeks in length (minimum of 200 hours) and apprentices receive a stipend.

Since 2004, Student Leaders has been part of our ongoing commitment to youth employment and economic mobility. Preparing a diverse pipeline of community-minded young students with the leadership training they need to be successful in the workforce is vital to our approach to responsible growth and helps to build thriving communities. Every year, through our Student Leaders program we help connect 225 community-minded high school juniors and seniors to employment, skills development and service. They’re awarded paid summer internships with local nonprofits such as Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Habitat for Humanity and participate in a national leadership summit in Washington, D.C. The Student Leaders Summit focuses on skill building and creating a more civically engaged society.
{Children's Hospital Colorado} Child Health Research Internship
The Department of Pediatrics offers summer research opportunities for rising high school seniors, college students and first-year medical students. Students will work in the lab with members of the Department of Pediatrics faculty at Children's Hospital Colorado/University of Colorado on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The summer program will introduce students to research opportunities related to child health. The summer internships will include opportunities for students to participate in a lecture research series as well as present their research at the completion of the summer internship.

Current students enrolled in educational institutions ranging from high school to graduate school gain the experience of working for DOD and ability to explore the many opportunities that the Department of Defense has to offer.
{Department of Navy} Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP)
The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) provides an opportunity for high school students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer. The goals of SEAP are to encourage participating high school students to pursue science and engineering careers, to further their education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the DoN. SEAP is providing competitive research internships to 250 high school students this year. Participating students spend eight weeks during the summer doing research at 28 DoN laboratories.
{George Mason University} Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program
The George Mason University Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program was established in 2007 by Dr. Lance Liotta, Dr. Emanuel Petricoin III, Dr. Virginia Espina, and Amy Adams to give high school and undergraduate students, who have an interest in STEM, access to real-world, hands-on research. Students work one-on-one with faculty researchers at George Mason University and collaborating institutions using state-of-the-art technology to solve hypothesis driven questions in Biochemistry, Biodefense, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Genomics, GeoInformation Science (GIS), Mathematical Modeling, Medicine, Nanotechnology, Neuroscience, Serious Game Design, Sports Medicine, Physics, and Proteomics.
{GoZen} Teen Summer Internship
What if teens could teach other teens about mental health in a way that was fun and engaging?
This year, GoZen! is teaming up with our colleague and friend Sarah Snow to run a powerful internship program. Sarah is an international filmmaker who creates content that challenges the way we see the world. She started her career at age 19 and by age 22, she was awarded one of the Top 100 Most Creative People by Fast Company. Her videos have garnered over 500 million organic views and have changed lives everywhere.
For the 2022 Teen Summer Internship, GoZen is combining our mental health know-how with Snow Media's deep expertise in storytelling to provide an experience for teens that will be educational, challenging, and chock-full of fun.
If you are a teen who is interested in mental health, comfortable on camera, and looking for a paid summer gig, this might be the perfect fit!

Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program
The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program is a paid summer internship and mentoring program for high school students sponsored by the American Fisheries Society (AFS). Selected students known as “Hutton Scholars,” are matched and mentored by a fisheries professional in their local area to enjoy a hands-on fisheries science experience in a marine and/or freshwater setting. Hutton Scholars receive payment over the course of the eight-week internship as well as valuable work experience in an exciting and rewarding field. Each student must complete mid-summer and final reports in order to successfully complete the program.

Internships are available from high school to graduate level. Internships provide students with the opportunity to participate in either research or other experiential learning, under the guidance of a mentor at NASA.
{National Institute of Standards and Technology} Summer High School Intern Program (SHIP)
The Summer High School Intern Program (SHIP) is a NIST-wide summer intern program for students who will have finished their junior or senior year of high school by the start of the program and are interested in scientific research only. All other high school applicants who do not want a summer research position should go to NIST Student Employment Programs for information on other NIST Programs. Students selected for this competitive volunteer program will participate in cutting-edge research at NIST, and will work closely with NIST staff scientists and engineers on a specific research problem.
{National Institutes of Health} High School Summer Internship Program
High School SIP provides an opportunity to spend a summer working at the NIH side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research. The NIH consists of the 240-bed Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center and more than 1150 laboratories/research projects located on the main campus in Bethesda, MD, and the surrounding area as well as in Baltimore and Frederick, MD; Research Triangle Park, NC; Hamilton, MT; Framingham, MA; Phoenix, AZ; and Detroit, MI.
{National Museum of Asian Art} Richard Louie Memorial Internship for High School Students
The Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the Smithsonian’s museums of Asian art, offer a paid internship for high school students. The Richard Louie Memorial Internship was established in 1994 to honor Richard Louie, former associate director of the Freer and Sackler, and is made possible by funds donated through the Richard Louie Memorial Fund. The goal of the internship is to introduce high school students to Asian art museums as places that offer unexpected rewards and challenges and chances for self-discovery. Richard Louie Memorial Interns are provided opportunities to accomplish a specific independent project within a departmental area of interest. In addition, the Freer and Sackler staff makes every effort to include interns in other museum activities.

The Office of the Secretary of Defense/Washington Headquarters Services (OSD/WHS) offers volunteer opportunities to students enrolled in an accredited high school, trade school, college and/or university. These opportunities allow students to explore career options in their field of study and develop personal and professional skills. Volunteer students are exposed to the work environment while learning about the Department of Defense missions and responsibilities.
{Smithsonian Institution} Benjamin Lawless Internship
The Benjamin Lawless Internship provides interns with the opportunity to learn about audience engagement, exhibition design, and telling stories through researching museum objects as well as the people who created and used those objects. Over the course of five consecutive weeks in the summer, a Benjamin Lawless Intern will develop creativity and imagination by finding new ways to tell stories inspired by the Smithsonian’s collections and research. An Intern engages in this guided learning experience 40 hours a week Monday-Friday. Upon the conclusion of the internship, the intern will provide an expression of their experience in any form they choose.
{Smithsonian Institution} Claudine K. Brown Internship in Education
This program was established in honor of the late Claudine K. Brown, former Assistant Secretary for Education and Access, to promote excellence in education and help ensure a diverse education and museum workforce of the future. Brown was a lifelong champion for learners of all ages. She believed in immersive experiences – that we learn by doing. As assistant secretary for education and access from 2010 to 2016, she was responsible for defining the institution’s overall education program, especially for K-12 students and teachers. She worked with more than 300 educators to bring stories, collections, lessons, films, games and many more offerings to life. Available internship opportunities are intended to increase participation of underserved students who are under-represented in the education and museum leadership field. Interns are placed in offices, museums, and research centers throughout the Smithsonian Institution where they will help to create, develop and disseminate innovative educational programs and resources at the Smithsonian, online, in the classroom and in communities.

The purpose of the General Smithsonian Internship Pool is to provide a place for internship applicants who are generally interested in the Smithsonian to indicate their interest. Smaller units and offices at the Smithsonian, which may not run formal application processes but who have internship learning opportunities available, may reach out to applicants from the general pool that seem like a good fit. Given the competitive nature of our programs, if you have a broad interest in the Smithsonian, and want to increase your chances of landing an internship, we encourage you to also apply to the General Smithsonian Internship Pool. Smithsonian units who have unfilled mentor-guided learning opportunities may recruit from applicants that select the general pool option. Applications to this program will not be considered for a specific internship program offered at a museum or unit, but may be considered for opportunities that become vacant at various units across the Institution generally. If you are selected for this internship, a Smithsonian unit will reach out to you to gauge your interest and learning objectives against the opportunity they offer.

Students who work for the United States Secret Service gain valuable experiences while contributing to one of the most elite law enforcement organizations in the world. The Secret Service Student Volunteer Service Program is designed to provide students with an understanding of the nature and the structure of the U.S. Secret Service. The program provides unpaid, academic-related work assignments that allow students to explore career options while developing personal and professional skills. Participants must be currently enrolled in school and are expected to volunteer a minimum of 12 hours per week for at least one semester, two quarters or summer session.
{University of Maryland Eastern Shore} Geosciences Bridge Program
The Geosciences Bridge Program offers a 6-week paid internship for students planning to pursue careers in the geosciences. The program includes lectures, field trips, hands-on activities, two for-credit college courses, housing, meals, travel to and from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), and a stipend.
