Columbus Academy Summer Internship Program

Program Expectations

Student Expectations

  • Maintain a professional attitude, appearance and work ethic at all times, beginning with the application process and carrying through to the end of the internship. Attendance, punctuality, dependability, responsibility, good judgement and maintaining a high quality of work are musts. Failure to adhere to these professional standards will result in dismissal from the program.

  • Respond to program communications from the Director of Internships and employers in a timely manner. Failure to do so may result in missed opportunities.

  • Attend the Internship Workshop and all cohort meetings as indicated by the Director of Internships.

  • Adhere to all school policies as stated in the Upper School Student Handbook.

Employer Expectations

  • Provide a meaningful internship experience with weekly average of 10-15 hours per week for 6-10 weeks for a summer internship or 5-10 hours per week for a school-year internship. The internship experience is an extension of the classroom and should help students build skills that will help them toward their professional goals.

  • Provide a mentor/supervisor who will be responsible for monitoring the progress of the intern, sharing feedback about work performance, providing training or being available to answer questions and is willing to complete an evaluation at the end of the internship.
