Elementary Special Education Teacher

Meet your teacher

Good Day! Guten Tag!

This is my first year teaching at the Columbus Elementary School and my 24th year teaching special education. I am excited to be the new Resource Room teacher helping children with special needs succeed in the school setting. I am very familiar with the special education process and an advocate for our special education population's individualized education plans.

I am also a teacher for the Montana Digital Academy. I have been the lead teacher for German 2 for the past 6 years and also teach a section of German 1 every fall.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up on a ranch in Northern Germany and came to Absarokee right out of high school to complete an internship at Immanuel Lutheran. After completing my special education degree in Germany, I immigrated to the US to live on my family's ranch my great uncle and dad had operated. My husband, Kevin, and I still operate the sheep ranch with the help of our children. I have two step sons who are married and have blessed us with three grandchildren, a daughter who is a junior at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, a son who is a junior at CHS , and currently a foreign exchange student from Denmark who is a sophomore at CHS.

When I told my dad I was contemplating applying for the special education position in Columbus, he responded with : "I think you should apply. I liked working for Pete Nicolaysen the butcher in Columbus back in the 50s. The people of Columbus are good people. I always liked Columbus."

I am excited to join a wonderful team of professionals who are welcoming, collaborative, and have the best interest of our children at heart.

Go Cougars!

The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.

Education begins the moment we see children as innately wise and capable beings. Only then can we play along in their world.
