Variety of Resources Available to Battle Bullying in Our Schools

Recent media reports of suicides across the country related to bullying because teens were gay or believed to be gay have put even more stress on efforts to fight bullying. Please take time to look at existing resources to keep children safe.

ISBE's Curriculum and Instruction Division has a page devoted to Internet Safety resources: The page includes state and national resources to battle cyberbullying, including http://www.cyberbullyhelp.com/ and tools from Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and the National PTA. Illinois Public Act 095-0869 mandates internet safety education for grades 3-12.

In addition, ISBE's Innovation and Improvement Division has a Safe at School web page.

The string of suicides related to bullying and sexual orientation prompted a statement by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan. One resource recommended by the U.S. Department of Education is http://www.bullyinginfo.org.
