Years of teaching in CUSD4: 2024-2025 will be my 31st year

Years of total experience: I taught kindergarten for 8 years and first grade for 12 years.  This will be my 11th year teaching second grade.

About Me:

My husband's name is Tim.  He is a salesman for Stratum Structural Systems.  We've grown up and still live in Columbia.  We have two children named Mitch (University of Illinois graduate) and Abbie (Missouri State University graduate). Mitch completed both Business Management and Business Marketing degrees as well as a Master's degree and is employed by Bayer.  He married his high school sweetheart, Jessica Altadonna, from Waterloo.  They have blessed me with two grandsons named Liam (2 1/2 years) and Luka (one year).  Abbie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.  She is employed as a registered nurse on the post surgical floor at St. Louis Children's Hospital and is a mentor to new nurses.  My hobbies include exploring local venues with my family, attending sporting events (Go Cardinals and Blues!), taking care of my flower gardens, reading, traveling, walking, swimming, and spending time with my family.

Mission for the Class:

It is my mission that all classroom activities should occur in an environment conducive to learning. All input should be valued, the fear of failure non-existent, and all efforts nurtured and supported. Positive reinforcement will be utilized in order for all students to have the desire to strive to reach their potential. The numerous ways that students learn must be addressed throughout the curriculum in ways that allow for creativity and an openness to learning. Manipulatives and subject matter integration need to be put to use in order to help students to interpret and relate to pertinent information. Cooperative learning as well as situations where the student-to-teacher ratio is reduced should take place in order to provide optimum learning situations. Flexibility, commitment, enthusiasm, knowledge, and a love of learning will be apparent at all times.
