Are you trying to wrap your mind around virtual learning or figure out where your child should go to begin their virtual learning day? The guide below explains the basic process.
Please note, each teacher does things a bit differently, so there could be some slight variations!
When you open the Chromebook, it will automatically turn on. If not, click the power button. On the white pop-up Google screen, you will click the blue Next button to log in. Based on your child's grade, they will log in in a specific way.
If the Chromebook is not connected to WiFi, it will prompt you to connect to WiFi before you can sign in. See the Chromebook info page to learn how to connect it.
Students will see the ClassLink log-in screen. They should click on the Sign in with QuickCard log-in option, and it will cut the student's webcam on. The student should hold their QuickCard QR slip up to the webcam, and it will log them in.
If the student does not have a QuickCard, please contact their homeroom teacher.
Students will see the Google log-in screen. They should type in their Google email and password and Sign In.
Once logged into the Chromebook, click on the Google Chrome app in the bottom center of the screen. This will automatically lead students directly to ClassLink -- a portal with numerous student apps. K-4 students will already be logged in. 5-12 students will log in with their same Google credentials.
If for some reason ClassLink does not automatically come up, it can be found:
in the My School Bookmarks folder in the top left of the Chrome browser
by going to classlink.colonialhts.net
While in ClassLink, click on the Canvas SAML icon seen below.
It will send students to their Dashboard in Canvas. Here, students will click on the appropriate card for the class they are joining.
Elementary school students will have course cards for their Homeroom class, resources, and additional services (Title 1 Reading, CREATE, etc.).
Secondary students will have course cards for each of their classes plus course cards for additional services.
On the Home page of the Canvas course, you should find a Google Meet button. While each teacher's button might look different, it likely has a Google Meet logo like one of the one's below.
Once you click on the Google Meet button, you should click Ask to Join or Join Now. The teacher will let you in when he or she is ready.
TIP: Do not try to join the meeting too early. It is recommended to try to join no more than 5 minutes before the meeting is set to begin.
