Students will obtain a comprehensive understanding of the operation of American national government. To accomplish this, students develop analytic perspectives for interpreting, understanding, and explaining political events in this country. The subjects covered include all of the Articles and Amendments of the Constitution, policy making institutions such as the legislature, the executive/ bureaucracy, the judicial branch with a focus on Supreme Court cases, public opinion and the media, political participation and voting behavior, political parties, interest groups, civil liberties and rights, and budget making.
