CA Distance Learning Welcome

Governor Walz, in the Governor’s Executive Order 20-02, concluded that all school districts in MN were to close from 3/18-3/29 to allow for planning to continue to provide a world-class education, while preserving the health, safety, and lives of Minnesotans. The result of this executive order was Cologne Academy's Distance Learning plan which supports each component of the Governor's order. Cologne Academy's School Board of Education approved the plan on April 23 during a regular school board meeting. We do expect this plan to be fluid and accommodating to the needs of our families and our student body. Our hope is that we can flatten the curve sooner vs later and return to school with a renewed vitality for learning and an even deeper appreciation for knowledge.

Implementing distance learning will require the full cooperation of students, teachers, and parents to make the instruction and learning meaningful and in compliance with the full expectations of Minnesota Statutes.

Cologne Academy's distance learning model will continue to provide students with new learning while sustaining previous learning. Learning objectives will be meaningful and important to student learning goals and outcomes.

        • Teachers will focus on essential learning - this is the most critical learning to make things manageable for everyone.
        • Distance learning is not an hour by hour replication of our traditional school day.
        • Educators will set routines and structures to support students/families while keeping in mind the uniqueness of each family's circumstances.
        • The use of differentiated instruction are paramount in this new learning environment, teachers will strive to provide best practice instruction that meets the needs of all learners to the greatest extent possible.
        • Cologne Academy's will use Google Classroom for all grades K-8.
