Dear Carver Families,

We know this may be a difficult time for many in our community. We want you to know: we see you, we support you, and we're here for your children.

What This Means:

Your child's education and safety are our top priorities
Our schools remain safe, welcoming spaces for all scholars
Federal law protects every child's right to learn with us, no matter what
The privacy of all our families is protected by federal law (FERPA)

We are educators, not immigration enforcement. That's not our role, and it never will be. Our goal is to ensure scholars are growing, thriving, and achieving.

GWC will have a FAN BUS for scholars (only).

$20 → bus + snack + game ticket

PURCHASE fan bus passes HERE.

★ We need 40 kids per bus. If we do not get 40 kids, the bus will be cancelled and refunds will be issued.

Good Morning,

Tomorrow, September 12th, Carver will run a slightly shortened schedule. Instead of dismissing at 1:50 p.m., our normal Friday dismissal time, we will dismiss at 12:00 p.m.

UPDATE: This afternoon, Carver staff members reported the faint smell of natural gas in our building. Out of an abundance of caution, we contacted the New Orleans Fire Department and made plans for an early dismissal. NOFD did not find any leaks or detect any natural gas in the air; our building has been cleared. The smell is likely related to the Chef Menteur apartment fire that started this morning, roughly a mile from Carver's campus.

Tomorrow, Thursday, September 4th, will be a normal school day. We look forward to seeing your child in the morning! Have a wonderful and safe afternoon.

Good Afternoon,

Out of an abundance of caution we have decided to dismiss school early and cancel all after-school practices. All scholars and staff members are safe. School buses are lined up and will leave 15 minutes ahead of schedule. At this time, we plan to have a normal school day tomorrow, Thursday, September, 4th. We will alert you if anything changes.

UPDATE: The GWC PE Uniform store will remain OPEN until end-of-day on Monday, September 8th.

Scholars and Families,

This year, GWC families can purchase a Carver PE Uniform directly from the vendor, BSN. Orders will ship to the home of the purchaser in 3-4 weeks.

SHIRT: men's $12.00, youth $11.99, green and black

SHORTS: men's $16.99, youth $15.99, black

Here's what you need to know:

A GWC PE Uniform is not required to participate in PE.
All scholars are strongly encouraged to dress out, but it is not required.
Dressing out does impact a small % of a scholar's PE grade.
Scholars who are currently not taking PE can still purchase a uniform.

Scholars and Families,

Like many schools across the city, Carver lost 4 days of instructional time when the winter storm hit New Orleans a few weeks ago. In order to make up the time, we’ve made some minor adjustments to our school calendar and dismissal times. Here is an overview:

Extended Fridays: We will dismiss at 3:30p (instead of 1:45p).

Jon Batiste's Love Riot Festival

Jon Batiste’s Love Riot Festival is a community event filled with joy, music, and togetherness! Let’s come together to honor the strength, culture, and love that make the Ninth Ward so special. This FREE event is open to guests of all ages.

There will be a Farmer's Market at Thrive Community Center from 8am - 10a. The festival will take place from 11a - 5p on the OPSB land behind Carver's building (back and to the left). The street in front of GWC (Carver Rams Way) will be closed to car traffic beginning at 8:30a. All cars must park on the streets near GWC and walk to the festival.

Special Guests include but are not limited to: Jon Batiste, The Carver Marching Band & Auxilary Teams plus our very own Coach Skip (@gameovaskip).

Each grade level has been scheduled at a designated orientation time and date. These mandatory orientation days are important and ALL scholars should plan to attend with their parents/guardians. Scholars and parents will meet GWC faculty, and staff, learn important school expectations and details from various entities, learn what is means to be a Carver Ram, complete and return any necessary paperwork, pay any school budgets, and more.

Scholars and families,

As we begin to plan for the 2024-2025 school year, we need all returning families to complete the Intent to Return form by June 17th. This information is necessary as we plan to send out important information about buses, back-to-school dates, and family orientation sessions.

FIRST B LETTER GRADE IN CARVER HISTORY!!!

Scholars and families,

We are so proud to announce that the Louisiana Department of Education's SPS for 2022-23 showed Carver earning a "B" Letter Grade -- the first in our school's proud history. That distinction is the result of our entire school community showing up every day with our core values: Achievement, Kindness, Responsibility, Determination, Teamwork, and Enthusiasm. It's an accomplishment years in the making and one that reflects the hard work of so many Carver scholars, teachers, and teammates! Congratulations!!

We also celebrate:

Carver earned an "A" for academic growth for the 2nd year in a row. We are #1 in New Orleans!
Carver earned "Top Gains" honors for the 2nd year in a row. We are the only New Orleans high school to do this.
Carver earned an "A" in the graduation rate portion of SPS and showed the largest improvement in New Orleans.
Families, thank you for the trust you have placed in us to educate your child(ren). These accomplishments deserve to be celebrated widely!

We look forward to a strong week before the Thanksgiving Holiday.
