The ACT tests four subjects: English, Math, Reading, and Science. Colleges often use it to grant admission and scholarships to their incoming students. In Louisiana, scoring a 20 composite on the ACT (the average of all of your subject scores) earns TOPS = free money for college.
The two best ways to grow your ACT score are:
20 minutes of Winward daily practice (ask Mr. Lozoff for more information - 305-733-0385)
Taking the ACT multiple times (last year, the average senior who earned TOPS took the ACT at least 4 times!)
GWC will sign your scholar up and cover the costs of several tests throughout their high school career. Parents are also encouraged to sign their scholars up for additional ACT tests if interested. On the back of this page is information about how to register your scholar for the ACT.
Step 1: With your scholar, sign into MyACT.org - their username is likely their school email, and their password is likely Carver(graduationyear)! (ex: Carver2026!)
Step 2: Scroll down and click the blue button that says “Register for the ACT” → “begin registering” → “in the US”. If you are not sure if your scholar receives accommodations to test, please text Ms. McGann or Ms. Warner (numbers above). Otherwise, click “No, None Needed” → “Paper” → ACT no writing
Step 3: Select the test date and site that you prefer. Then click save and continue
Note: we recommend Warren Easton, Jesuit, Willow, Brother Martin.
Step 4: You will now need to click through several pages of questions about your child’s information and score preferences. Anything that is not indicated required in red lettering may be left blank.
Step 5: Once you get to Payment and Review, you’ll need to accept ACT’s terms and conditions. Then scroll down to enter your payment information.
Step 6: After you pay, you will receive your scholar’s test ticket. Your scholar will need to print their test ticket and bring it with them (along with their ID, a pencil and a calculator) on the day of the test.
