Attendance

During the duration of distance learning, Collegiate Academies will define attendance as being present for synchronous (live) virtual classes, as well as completing asynchronous work outside of class. Here are additional details on how attendance will be taken and logged:

  • Your child is scheduled to take synchronous virtual classes every day. Attendance will be taken for each class.

  • ‘Attending’ class means that students are logging into virtual synchronous lessons and are present for these lessons for at least 50% of the class. (This is to account for tech issues that will inevitably occur.)

  • For the purposes of state reporting and truancy referrals, we will also track daily attendance. Daily attendance will be determined by the number of courses a student attends on any given day.

What will be excused or unexcused?

Absences will be considered excused if they fall into one of the following categories and documentation is submitted to the school: illness, hospital stay, medical appointments, observation of holidays of the student’s own faith, visitation with a parent who is a member of the armed forces, death in the immediate family.

Absences will be considered unexcused if they do not fall into a category outlined above or if documentation is not provided.

Transportation

Maximum Capacity

Phase 1: 25% or 12 Students (1 student per seat except siblings with every other seat empty)

Phase 2: 50% or 24 Students (1 student per seat except siblings)

Phase 3: 75% or 36 Students

Routing

Students will be assigned to a single bus. This is to ensure that we are following the state’s capacity requirement and protecting both student and driver health.

Students will be limited to one route and practices such as being picked up and dropped off in different locations, using different routes, etc. will all be prohibited.

Procedures

  • Students must wear masks starting when they board the bus.

  • Students must use hand sanitizer when they board the bus.

  • Weather permitting, all windows must be open (this includes air conditioned buses)

Cleaning

High touch surfaces and bathrooms are cleaned and disinfected every 2 hours.

Spaces and high touch surfaces are cleaned and disinfected before and after a different Static Group uses them.

Hygiene

Hand Washing

All children, staff, and volunteers must engage in hand hygiene at least once every two hours including at the following times:

  • Arrival to the facility and after breaks

  • Before and after eating or handling food, or feeding children

  • Before and after administering medication or medical ointment

  • Before and after using the bathroom or helping a child use the bathroom

  • After coming in contact with bodily fluid

  • After playing outdoors

  • After handling garbage

  • Before and after using shared equipment or supplies

Face Masks

All adults and students regardless of age are required to wear cloth or disposable masks at all times while on the school’s campus, at the bus stop, or on the bus. This includes all staff, visitors, vendors, contractors, and families.

  • Face masks not permitted include Halloween-type masks, ski masks, any item obstructing the vision of the person wearing it, or posing a health and safety risk to the greater school community.

  • Staff and students must exercise caution when removing face masks, always store it out of reach of other students, and wash hands immediately after removing.

  • Masks must be replaced if contaminated (become wet, are torn, or handled with unclean hands). Staff and students are encouraged to bring additional clean face coverings each day in the event that their covering is soiled or lost. If a spare is unavailable, a disposable mask will be provided.

  • Nursing staff and adults working with vulnerable students must also wear masks and gloves at all times. Additional PPE including goggles, face shields, and plexiglass may also be utilized when appropriate.

  • Specialized settings and clinicians may have separate face covering requirements due to the specifics of their work with students. These guidelines will be shared with these cohorts of staff during summer PD in their PLCs.

April 14, 2020

Dear Collegiate Academies Families,

Yesterday Governor John Bel Edwards announced that school facilities will remain closed for the rest of 2019-20. Over the last month, your child’s teachers and schools have worked hard and partnered with you in inspiring ways:

  • Produced strong academic packets in English and math for continued learning

  • Made thousands of phone calls to check-in with students and support them

  • Partnered with public schools across New Orleans and Baton Rouge to serve over 400,000 free, nutritious meals

  • Shared resources and support, from mental health to internet access to telehealth clinics

We will continue to stand with you as we navigate the months ahead. We are committed to continued learning and growth for your child. Please let us know if you have ideas and insights about how to reach our goals together.

There are several important updates to share with you today:

03.13.2020 Letter to Parents

March 13, 2020

Dear Collegiate Academies Families,

Today, Governor John Bel Edwards announced that all Louisiana public schools should develop distance learning plans, and that students should not be present at public school facilities between Monday, March 16 and April 13, 2020. As we navigate the coming month together, the safety and well-being of our entire community is our number one priority.

This decision is an extremely difficult one, as we know that closing a school facility places a heavy burden on families, and that this will greatly impact our students. Our school has been preparing diligently for this moment, to make sure students and families are supported through this time:

Supplemental LEARNING:

We are finalizing instructional plans that will allow meaningful learning to take place for our students. We will share details of our instructional plan for this period by Wednesday, March 18th.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

ACT Testing scheduled for Tuesday, March 17th has been postponed.

LEAP Testing will occur as planned until we hear otherwise from the Louisiana Department of Education

All athletic and co-curricular activities are postponed.

While the facility is closed, our custodial team will take all steps necessary to conduct a deep cleaning and disinfection of the building. Specific emphasis will be placed on frequently touched surfaces, such as bathrooms, desks, counter tops, doorknobs, faucet handles, and phones.

We will continue to work closely with district, state, and local officials for updates and guidance. For the latest information and resources on COVID-19, families are encouraged to visit:
