PRESENTATION.

In this presentation I share a little about myself as an introduction to the students and teachers in our school. I share some fun facts about myself, such as where I am from, my favorite seasons, my favorite foods, hobbies and about my dog named Scout.

HALLOWEEN IN THE UNITED STATES.

As part of this presentation I shared how Halloween is celebrated in the United States, which is very different from Spain. Discussion points included:  the typical food/treats, how people dress, and activities we use to celebrate the holiday. In my presentation, I shared photos of personal experiences such as costumes and things I do with my friends for the holiday.

THANKSGIVING. GRATITUDE ACTIVITY.

To show students the origins of thanksgiving holiday, we talked about things we are grateful for in our lives. After brainstorming examples, students drew “hand turkeys” and were given the opportunity to write five things they were grateful for.

CHRISTMAS IN THE UNITED STATES.

Presentation: As the Christmas holiday approached, I shared with students of all levels what Christmas is like in the USA. I also shared many photos of my experiences over the years during the holiday season. We discussed American traditions such as: Christmas trees, Santa Claus and his reindeer.

Activity: As part of the Christmas holiday, I brought coloring pages for students to complete, in which they were given blank Santa’s elf outlines and they were to draw themselves as elves. This was fun to see students' different art techniques!

EASTER IN THE UNITED STATES.

Presentation. As Easter approached we talked about how this holiday is celebrated in the USA, as compared to Spain. We discussed the difference in traditions of the holiday such as food, activities and symbols. As part of this we colored Easter eggs with color, as we decorate them in the USA.

SAINT PATRICK'S DAY.

To celebrate the holiday of Saint Patrick’s day I presented a summary of the origins of the holiday and how it is celebrated in the United States. As part of the presentation we discussed relevant vocabulary words and played a matching game to remember them.

THE FIVE SENSES.

Activity: While 3rd grade learned about the five senses, I created an activity and accompanying worksheet to practice the senses in English together. In the activity, I showed students photos or videos on the board, from which they were to write down the things they could sense for each of the five senses.

Presentation: This presentation had various photos and videos so that students could visualize application of the senses. For example, for taste we looked at a photo with many different kinds of food. Students really enjoyed this activity and were able to share comments on the various foods they could sense.

ECOSYSTEMS.

Presentation: To accompany the unit in which 5th grade was learning about ecosystems, I created a summary presentation in English. Together we reviewed the components of ecosystems, the different types and I shared personal experience in the different ecosystems in my travels. I shared personal photos of myself in the Oregon High Desert and Oregon Temperate Rain Forest.

TAKING CARE OF ECOSYSTEMS.

Presentation: As a continuation of ecosystems we discussed different ways that humans can impact the ecosystems we live in. I shared a personal experience of the impact that human caused wildfires had on my life from back in 2020. My home state of Oregon had several wildfires that summer that caused extreme smoke pollution. To finish we talked about ways that we can help the environment such as: reducing, reusing and recycling.

NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURES.

Presentation. As students were learning about the journeys of Spanish explorers who came to America, I presented about the native first people of Northern America. We discussed history, culture and the impact of European explorers on the lives of local people. We also discussed these cultures as they are today in North America.

USA 19th CENTURY HISTORY: THE OREGON TRAIL.

Presentation. As students learned about 19th century history in Spain, I created this presentation to show an important historical event in the United States during the same time period, The Oregon Trail. This was one of the largest migrations of people during the 19th century in the United States. The Oregon territory was settled by white settlers, after it had previously only been occupied by indigenous first people.
