1ST GRADE.1 ST TERM

Welcome to our blog!! We hope to have fun and learn about social and natural science in a funny way!!

MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY
The 18th of September we started the first session with a MOTIVATING ACTIVITY!
The teachers wore some costumes related to the weather and seasons. First we asked students which seasons they recognised and what they knew about each season. What's the weather like? What clothes do we wear? Is the weather the same all around the world?
The performance was very funny!
After this performance the children were divided in five groups. Each week the students rotated in different workshops.
SEASONS WORKSHOP
We listened to a song about the seasons and learned how to identify each one. We also played a season sorting game to work on vocabulary.
CLOTHES WORKSHOP
Students learned about the clothes we are wearing in the different seasons of the year. They had fun watching the play Mary is naked!! The students helped Mary to put her clothes on. We also played with flashcards and they completed a worksheet.
CONTINENTS WORKSHOP
Students learned about the large land masses called continents. We named all the seven continents and we sang a song related to the continents to remember them better. After, we made a craft using a paper plate and cutouts of the continents to recreate the earth.

The students will create a compass rose to learn about the cardinal points: north, south, west, east...

We need:
- cork
- needle
- water
- magnet
WEATHER WORKSHOP
Students learned about different weather: rainy, snowy, cloudy, stormy, etc. They played a game with flashcards with weather on them, repeating the weather words. Also they did a worksheet where they had to match the weather with the clothes that are worn during that weather. After that the students watched a short video with the phrase "How's the weather today" and saw the possible answers. After the video everybody listened and sang a weather song. At the end of the class the students played a weather board game.
REVIEW WORKSHOP
Students review all the topics and vocabularies that they learnt the past sessions about weather, seasons, clothing, cardinal points and continents. They sang songs, played with flash cards, colored the 4 seasons worksheets and so on and so forth. Let´s have a look at some of the students at work.

FINAL PRODUCT :
TRAVEL GUIDE
Students created their final products with their corresponding Groups. Each group works on a well-known country and their task is to create a TRAVEL GUIDE with all the essential information such as continent where the country is located, the Capital City, seasons/ weather, clothing, cardinal points, famous landmarks, and typical food.
FINAL PRODUCT WORKSHOPS: TRAVEL GUIDE
While a group of students recorded the audios, the other groups were working in groups doing activities such as: trace with the continents with plasticine, playing hopscotch with the different contents and watching a video about the different countries.

SAMPLE LEARNING DIARIES
Every week, after each session, the students must write or draw something in their learning diaries about what they have learned, what activities they liked and so on. Here are some examples of the learning diaries from our students.
CHRISTMAS WORKSHOPS
Finally this is our last session in Projects!! The children learned a poem about Christmas, pinned Rudolph's parts of the body and they created a Rudolph head using their shoes as a head and their hands as antlers. Let's have a look!!
Children wore some Chistmas party hats, glasses and sang some carols.

ESO students came to our classrooms to sing some famous Christmas Carols. We sang along with them and the performance was beautiful!
