Thomas Paine

In this lesson, students learned about the life of Thomas Paine and the arguments he made for American independence from Britain.

#MovingForTheBetter: Thomas Paine moved to America for a better life. This reminds me of how my parents moved to America from Mexico to have a better future for themselves and their kids.

#3rdTimeIsTheCharm: The saying "third time is the charm" reminds me of Thomas Paine's life. Back in England, he lost his first wife and child in childbirth. His second marriage didn't work well. His third chance in life began when he met Benjamin Franklin and was encouraged to go to America where his life got much better.

#CesarChavez: Thomas Paine reminds me of Cesar Chavez because Chavez changed the lives of poor migrants. He helped organize them together to have a chance at a better life. Thomas Paine did something similar as he helped organize the colonists together against the bad treatment of King George.

#BLMProtests: The ideas of Thomas Paine remind me of the BLM protests today because people are speaking out and taking action in their ideas. They are standing up and being heard just like Thomas Paine did. He spoke out against how he believed King George was treating the colonists. The BLM protests will lead to change like Paine's ideas led to independence.

#AOC - This reminds me of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez because she continues to challenge the government to become better. She fights for equality and want everyone to have the same opportunities. Although she doesn't have to much power she tries to make things better for everyone.
