Homework Information

Welcome to my Homework page!

I know how busy everyone's lives can be so I am going to try my best to limit the amount of homework given weekly. I believe that extra-curricular endeavors are just as important as academics in a child's development. I want to allow time for your child to pursue outside interests while providing them with some academic practice at home. I also believe that a love of reading is best fostered when students are given choice about what they read so I will allow them to read what interests them.

I will be checking reading logs from each homeroom on a rotating basis. You can refer to the schedule at the bottom of the page to find out which weeks I will be checking their reading logs. They should turn in their reading log on Monday.

Occasionally I will assign additional homework or projects to be completed at home. If that is the case I will let parents know through Class Dojo that the homework will be modified. I will also modify the reading requirements for that week to allow for time to complete the project without adding additional homework time.

Student Responsibilities:

  • Show responsibility by completing and returning homework on time.
  • Show responsibility by bringing home everything you need to complete your homework.
  • Show assertion by communicating with me if your homework is too easy or too hard.
  • Show excellence by attempting difficult homework.
  • Show honesty by completing your homework.

Components of Weekly Homework:

READING

    • 100-120 minutes of reading in Spanish or English weekly( 50% Spanish, 50% English.
    • Your child will take turns reading and responding in English and Spanish. One week they will read and respond in English and turn their reading journals in to me and the next they will respond in Spanish and turn their journals in to Mrs. Ida. They will use the same notebook for both languages and each teacher will provide a menu of responses to choose from.
    • You may decide how much time you spend reading daily but the weekly total should be at least 100 minutes. The easiest way would be to read four days a week for 25-30 minutes but you can adjust it to your schedule.
    • The reading response should only take 5-10 minutes and should be a short paragraph in length.
    • You may include required reading for any subject area in your reading log as long as the reading happens at home.
    • Students will take their reading home on Monday afternoon and return it the following Monday so they have 7 days to do their reading for the week.
    • If they read things they enjoy this won't be 'work'! :)
