CFS has a focus on academic excellence, with high aspirations for all students, regardless of background. Our aim is to produce confident, independent learners who have a broad understanding of all the major areas of knowledge. We prepare each child for their future, giving them a strong foundation in numeracy, literacy and a full range of other traditional subject areas, as well as the skills to succeed in life. Additionally, we extend our pupils' experiences by offering opportunities to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Cobham Free School is non-denominational, accepting children from all faiths or none, from all backgrounds and beliefs - we value the cultural diversity which serves to enhance and enrich our community.

Music is a key strength at CFS. Through our partnership with the world famous Yehudi Menuhin School we are able to offer exceptional instrumental tuition for all pupils.
We believe music has a positive impact on cognitive, emotional and social development. Music increases pupils’ ability to work collaboratively, improving their focus, self-confidence and self-esteem. These attributes impact on behaviour and learning in the classroom and contribute to academic success.
In order to achieve our aims for excellence in language tuition, we have recruited native speakers and pupils receive a highly structured and carefully planned programme with opportunities to extend learning and make the subject relevant for all age groups.
From Reception upwards children have French lessons delivered by a subject specialist. Latin and Spanish are offered from Year 7 as additional subjects in the curriculum. Greek is available as an after-school club.
Each class has a published admissions number of just 24, allowing for more individual attention from teachers, for special needs children to be identified and supported appropriately and for higher ability pupils to be challenged and stretched.
As a result of the smaller class sizes and almost all classes benefiting from additional support given by Teaching Assistants, pupil to staff ratios are excellent across Cobham Free School.
The school has an exciting and pioneering cloud-based approach to ICT, with all pupils from Reception upwards having their own Chromebook computers. The use of Google apps for education allows pupils and staff to collaborate and work securely on documents together from anywhere in the world and access information from the web within seconds. Pupils learn both how to use programmes and also how to write their own.
Our partnership with Chelsea Football Club Foundation enables us to provide a full and varied range of sports coaching. We are the first secondary (all through) school to work with Chelsea FCF in this way. The coaches provide our pupils across the Key Stages with very high quality teaching and opportunities to participate in competitive fixtures against other schools. They are overseen by our Director of Sport, Andy Simmons, who was a member of the Chelsea Foundation prior to joining Cobham Free School on a full time basis.
The longer school day is a particular feature of the school, to help working parents and offer pupils access to an exciting and broad range of extra-curricular activities after school each day free of charge to all pupils.
Breakfast Club also runs in the morning from 7.45 am open to all pupils to start the day with a nutritious meal.
Staff-run Study/Homework Club is available until 4.30 pm for senior and junior school pupils, where staff can help support pupils’ learning.
The CFS admissions policy gives priority to a percentage of local children who are eligible for pupil premium, in the case that the school is oversubscribed. This is to encourage families from the most deprived parts of Cobham to apply.
Although Cobham is generally viewed as an affluent area, there are pockets of deprivation (a food bank has opened in the area).
CFS aims to provide the best possible education for local children of all backgrounds.
The school is organised in House groups for some pastoral and competitive activities.
The groups allow pupils to mix with children and staff from different departments, to feel part of a team and to take on leadership roles.

We promote the British values outlined in the government’s 2011 Prevent Strategy; democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. These values are reinforced in a number of ways, including through our SMSC (spiritual, moral, social and cultural) and behaviour policies, curriculum and pastoral systems:
Democracy - a democratic process is employed for important school decisions, such as the selection of the Head Boy and Head Girl. Pupils also learn about democracy through ‘mock elections’ mirroring national leadership campaigns.
Rule of Law - the codes of conduct for behaviour, and attitudes reinforced within the school, have been drawn up to teach pupils about the importance of following rules and abiding with the law.
Individual Liberty - pupils are empowered to make independent choices and know their rights and freedoms, while respecting boundaries.
Mutual Respect - our core CFS Values promote mutual respect; all pupils are allowed to express themselves in a safe and respectful community.
Tolerance - students are equipped with the ability to understand their place in a culturally diverse society and are given opportunities to experience such diversity within the school community
