Burke Town School’s mission is to embrace the diverse identity of our small community while promoting unity. Together, the school and community will provide an excellent education rooted in respect, responsibility and positive relationships among all.
In our middle school we believe middle school students should be provided the opportunities to become responsible and involved citizens through engaging learning. Our middle school strives to help each student develop a sense of belonging and purpose as an active member of the community.
Meet Our Staff!
My name is Lori Robinson. I am one of the special educators for the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. This year I will be providing services in the area of humanities. I grew up in the NEK but after graduating college and traveling, I settled in Maine. I returned 5 years ago to teach at Burke. My husband and I have two daughters, Olivia and Abby. We live in Lyndon with our dog, Dolly and 2 cats. We love to spend time at our yurt in Newark. We also love to hike, ski, read and geocache.
My name is Des Hertz and I am a graduate of UVM, (twice), and have lived in Burke since 1980. I also graduated from Burke Town School! This year I will be working with the middle school to team to help integrate writing units and work with students to help them achieve their writing goals. Not only do I love to read and write, I have a new passion for pod-casts; I learn so much from them! I live in Burke Hollow with lots of pets and my wonderful family. For fun, I like to Nordic ski, mountain bike, hang out with my dogs and family, garden and cook.
Hi! I'm Josh Lambert (A.K.A. Lambee) and proud teacher at the Burke Town School. This will be my third year teaching at Burke Town and living in the NEK. I've grown close to the area and people living in it; I'm excited to continue collaborating with colleagues, families, and most importantly my students! I'm passionate about middle schoolers which is why I pursued my bachelors of science from Messiah College for Middle Level Education.
Outside of school I enjoy spending my time gardening, hiking, skiing, cooking and visiting family. My wife, Marie, and I are expecting our first child this fall and are very, very excited for the new addition. I'm hoping to train our dogs, Koda and Moby, how to change a diaper before then.
Hi! My name is Morgan Moore and I am excited to begin my third year, teaching 7-8th Grade Humanities at Burke. I also am the 8th Grade class advisor and coordinate the BTS Middle School Outdoor Club. Previously, I taught 7th Grade English in Boston for two years, outdoor education in the White Mountains and ESL in Seattle, WA. I recently finished my Masters in English Education through Plymouth State and look forward to an exciting, project filled year at BTS. I love being outside, especially hiking, camping and mountain biking (often with my dogs Zander and Brookie)!
Hi! My name is Courtney Murray and this is my second year as part of the Burke Middle School team. I graduated from the University of Vermont, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. I am currently working towards my Masters in Education: Curriculum and Instruction, from Johnson State College. Outside of school I enjoy traveling, hiking, fishing, camping, and kayaking. During the summer my husband and I operate a food truck, which is really fun as well! I really enjoyed getting to know all the students and am looking forward to the upcoming year.
My name is June Murphy. I currently live in Lyndonville with my husband. We have two children (now adults!).
During the 2017-2018 school year, I will be teaching fifth grade reading, writing, word study, and social studies. I first started my teaching career in Burke. I later worked at the Deerfield Valley Elementary School, in southern Vermont, and at Lyndon Town School. After several years of teaching, I received my master’s degree at the University of New England. It is exciting to be part of the Burke community. Burke Town School has much to offer and is made up of a caring and positive group of students, families, and staff.
When not in the classroom, I love hiking, kayaking, biking, swimming, and skiing. The Northeast Kingdom is a special place to live.
Hello, my name is Dale Guisinger. I am very excited to begin teaching middle school math at Burke Town School! I was previously a math teacher in Coventry, and attended Lyndon State College prior to that. I grew up in Charleston, VT and have spent most of my life living here in the Northeast Kingdom. When I'm not in school I enjoy spending time outdoors. You will likely find me hiking, swimming, skiing or snowboarding (depending on the season). I'm very passionate about mathematics and look forward to all of the learning we will do in the future.
My name is Amelia Wurzburg, and I’m excited to be joining BTS as the 6th and 8th grade Humanities teacher! I grew up in the Northeast Kingdom, and after spending some time away, I’m very happy to be back! This May, I received a master’s degree in middle school education from the University of Vermont. Prior to that I spent several years working with middle schoolers as an Environmental Educator in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, as well as in the mountains and deserts of Wyoming and Utah. One of the many reasons I’m excited to be back in the beautiful NEK is that I love spending time outdoors- hiking, skiing, and trail running are some of my favorite pastimes. I also love cooking, reading, and hanging out with my new kitten, Ernie. I’m excited to be part of the BTS community, and can’t wait to get to know my students!
Hi! My name is Jennifer McCormack and this is my third year teaching at BTS. I was once a student at BTS (long time ago) and feel fortunate that I am back as a teacher. I received my Master's Degree from UVM through the Vermont Mathematics Initiative and have recently been fortunate to work with the Vermont Science Initiative program.
We live in a beautiful area with amazing community support and so many outdoor opportunities right at our finger tips. It is exciting to bring more of those experiences to our students. I am looking forward to the 5th grade joining the middle school!
I live just three miles from BTS with my family, Ben and Luke. We like to go on long distance mountain bike rides, run, ride dirt bikes, and ocean fish in the summer.
