Beast Academy is an engaging, rigorous math curriculum for elementary students. Students learn higher-order reasoning skills and how to think critically. They regularly tackle tough problems and gain resilience, creativity, and perseverance that can be applied to many other subject areas.
We played a number of Mega-Fun Math Games this year. The games helped students learn and remember math concepts while applying problem-solving and strategy skills. We also learned to work cooperatively, give and take praise and criticism, instruct others, and accept success and failure in the presence of peers.
Most math classes included a warm up. Esti-Mysteries were a favorite this year. Esti-Mysteries are a type of math challenge developed by Steve Wyborney designed to engage students in estimation and math reasoning. You can see pictures of Esti-Mysteries in action here.
