A big shout out to all the PTA volunteers who helped out at this months second and third grade paint nights. The kids had a blast painting winter theme pictures and drinking hot cocoa!
What a cool project idea! Look at what some of our third grade students were creating to give them a better understanding of different map styles and landforms. The painted and labeled final products were awesome.
What a wonderful performance today from our students and community members from the Poospatuck Reservation for our Native American Celebration EXPO. The children had such a great time watching and event participating in the cultural dances.
Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Champion Mackenzie Sweeney from Mrs. Diem's class! Mackenzie won by spelling the word "interpolated" correctly. We would also like to congratulate our second runner up Moira Dalton from Mrs. Mollina's class and first runner up Christopher Russo from Mrs. Diem's class. A special thank goes out to our host and master of ceremonies Mrs. Craig and to Mrs. Huey, Mrs. McDermott, and Mrs. Torres for helping to facilitate the event. We are so proud of all of the students who participated!
Here's a brief glimpse into what mathematics instruction looks like in some of our first grade classrooms. Our teachers are always challenging themselves to use new differentiation strategies to meet the needs of all learners and keep students engaged.
Our purposeful play program has been a major hit! Students work on developing fine and gross motor skill through play and fun activities. Here are some pictures of our students working on balance, coordination, and accuracy.
Here's a quick snapshot of some of our 4th grade students exploring sharks in the most recent edition of their in-school science field trips.
A huge shout out to Mrs. Dawley and Mrs. Baio for presenting at the Board of Education meeting their use of the Teacher's College Writing program. Your description of how you differentiate instruction and assess student work for meaningful grouping of students was awesome. You made Clayton Huey and Center Moriches proud! Congrats again to our spelling bee winner Mackenzie Sweeney and runner up Christopher Russo as they were honored at a recent Board of Education meeting. Good luck at Hofstra!
Thank you to our local police officers for coming to Clayton Huey to show the students of Mrs. Russo, Mrs. Melon, Mrs. Smeja and Mrs. Niegocki's class to teach us about safety and the role of police officers in our community. The students were so excited to show all they learned about safety, and even sang a song for the police officers about their roles and responsibilities.
Wishing the best of luck to our LEGO First competitors! They will be competing in a qualifying event this Sunday at Great Hollow Middle School in Smithtown. They have worked so hard to create and program their robots, and had enough time left over to put together an amazing presentation as well! We are so proud of your hard work.
Please allow the Clayton Huey staff and students the opportunity to give a HUGE shout out to the Center Moriches High School students who, as part of the Math Honor Society, volunteered their time to present to our students a STEM Day! The students and staff all had an amazing time learning about all the science topics that are covered at the high school from 3D printing, to robot creations. The students are still reeling from this amazing event.
