Good afternoon. This message is on behalf of the CMS Student Placement and Student Assignment Office:
On Tuesday, July 21 the Board will vote on new attendance boundaries for McKee Road and Providence Spring elementary schools. In advance of the vote, the Board will hear from the community via a public hearing. Individuals interested in speaking should email Nicole Kelly at nicole1.kelly@cms.k12.nc.us. A valid email address and phone number are required upon sign up.
The superintendent intends to recommend the violet scenario (see https://www.cms.k12.nc.us/cmsdepartments/StudentPlacement/PlanningServices/Documents/2021-22%20Providence%20Spring%20Relief-%20NEW/PSE_McKee%20Road%20Cmmty%20Engagement%20%28June%2011%202020%29%20FOR%20POSTING.pdf) with two minor modifications:
The first modification includes the “even” side of McKee Road in the portion to be assigned to McKee Road Elementary. Today, the odd side is assigned to McKee Road Elementary and the even side is assigned to Providence Spring Elementary.
The second modification includes Kuykendall Rd. south of Brushy Lane in the portion to be assigned to McKee Road Elementary. Today, there are no CMS students in this portion of Kuykendall Rd.
The recommendation assigns 155 students from Providence Spring Elementary to McKee Road Elementary, and 13 students from Crestdale Middle to Jay M. Robinson Middle.
The proposed effective date of the elementary change is fall 2021; students who are assigned to the 5th grade for the 2021-22 school year will be grandfathered to complete their elementary school experience at Providence Spring.
The proposed effective date of the middle school change is one year later at fall 2022; students who are assigned to the 7th and 8th grades for the 2022-23 school year will be grandfathered to complete their middle school experience at Crestdale Middle.

The CMS Planning Services department will host a community engagement conversation on Thursday, June 11 at 5:30pm. The session is the third in ongoing conversations to consider assignment changes between Providence Spring and McKee Road elementary schools for the purpose of providing relief to Providence Spring Elementary. During Thursday’s session, two new scenarios will be shared, bringing the total number of scenarios under consideration to four.
A recording of the webinar will be posted to the CMS website for all those unable to attend live.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
Please considering responding to the survey provided at the end of the presentation tomorrow.
The BOE met last night and brought another proposal to the table. This is identified as choice “Violet.” Please see the attached presentation made to the Board last Night. There will be another opportunity to get parent and community input this coming Thursday, June 11. Please complete the survey when it comes out. It is imperative that we make our voices heard.
No matter the choices made, it will impact McKee Road in some way. Even if your child won't be changing schools, we will be gaining students at McKee Road. Please take the time to educate yourself on the proposals before the board and the best choices for our students.
(This additional Violet proposal brings fewer students to McKee and that will be a great thing with regards to overcrowding our campus.)
