Striking balloons is a fun way to develop an important movement skill, and not to be underrated!
When striking a regular balloon with either a hand, body part, or object, it allows plenty of time to strike again without letting the balloon touch the ground. This makes a great modified indoor volleyball game for the family or even by yourself, as we anticipate more days of rain here in Charlotte. Practice on your own, set boundaries in your living room, create teams, play one-on-one, and create fun rules as you go! The video below is an awesome demonstration of different ways you can make this skill an interactive activity. Get started, and make it your own!
This week, I want to encourage everyone to explore all of the awesome outdoor activities Mecklenburg County's Parks & Rec has to offer. Whether you want to discover a new lake or hike along a greenway, the options are truly endless. Check out our county's website for maps and park descriptions and try this week's nature scavenger hunt to make your trip interactive!
While you are outside enjoying the weather, getting your 30 minutes of daily activity in, and completing our long term challenge, think of ways to make walking fun! Use this scavenger hunt while you are walking with the family and be sure to log your mileage!
Wellbeats Fitness App & Website
It is the week before Spring Break! Hopefully everyone has settled into a routine and is making physical activity a priority. In order to encourage daily activity, our PE challenge will be using the CMS endorsed website and mobile app "Wellbeats," which provides over 500+ HD fitness videos that you can do straight from home, with professional trainers. Access is FREE until April 30th, and you will not be charged for joining. The flyer below includes an access code that will be required for creating an account. Creating an account is FREE and takes less than 5 minutes to complete with an email address. This is an excellent app for trying new things at home, especially on rainy days, and is awesome for all ages!
Your Challenge is to complete 6 new videos, and rank them in order from most to least favorite. Which activity did you enjoy the most, and why? Did you try something new? Happy exercising!
Time to test your creativity! I challenge your family to create a fun and intense obstacle course anywhere, using whatever you can find in your home. This can be inside or outside. Create a family video of everyone racing to complete the obstacle course the fastest! Planning will take some time and preparation. Take inventory of everything you could use as an obstacle to jump over, climb under, or knock down. Uploading and sharing videos are optional, but encouraged, on any tech platform you feel is appropriate. YouTube video submissions will be posted on this website!
