Women in STEM

Faculty Advisor:

Mr. Brock Shipley

Description:

Our mission is to empower and encourage high school girls to be a part of the movement to increase female representation in STEM. While many organizations focus on teaching young women technical skills or lean towards purely social advocacy, WiSTEM combines the two at a high school level giving young women a more balanced choice. With this vision in mind, we developed our core initiatives, designed to help create tangible change. The core initiatives are outreach, mentorship, and networking. The outreach initiative aims to partner with local elementary or middle schools to introduce STEM to young girls. The mentorship initiative aims to partner college STEM students with high school students to serve as role models and to help girls find their true passions. Lastly, the networking initiative aims to introduce high school girls to successful female STEM professionals and professors.
