We get around 6 minutes between classes to transition to our next. But we have to answer one question: is that enough time? With such a wide campus and such a large amount of students, some find it difficult to get to point A to point B on time. For some they make it to their class with only a minute to spare. For other unlucky soldiers, they find themselves a minute too late. These people then get locked out of their buildings and rounded up by security, wasting away precious class time. We asked some students to get their opinion on the transition time and here is what they had to say:
What is the longest distance you have to travel on campus?
Top Answer: C to O building
Do you think there is enough time to get to class?
"Yes, I have enough time, but I do have problems when people start crowding the hallways.” - Sebastian Calvo
Do you think the transition time is enough?
Yes I do. Some of the more efficient students want to get to class but those who don’t consider others are always blocking the hallways.” -Anonymous
Do any physical obstacles make it difficult to arrive at class on time?
Considering we sometimes have to run to classes, the rain and sometimes snow outside make it difficult to run. I’ll sometimes slip and get myself soaked." - Izzy Boyd
Out of the 4 students we interviewed, three said the transition time is enough and it does not hinder them from getting to class on time. But then we had another question: What about the teachers? Many teachers on campus have to float around on campus carrying heavy amounts of supplies with them. What is their opinion on this? We interviewed Mr. Le and here is what he had to say on the topic:
Do you feel as if student transition time is too short? Is 6 minutes not enough?
"Transition time is perfectly fine the way it is, people just need to stop messing around and hurry up and walk to class.”
Being a teacher that does not have a permanent room, is it difficult to have to transition within those 6 minutes that students have?
"It is a 50/50 situation; on [the] one hand it is difficult and bothersome as I have to carry around all my paperwork as well but [it] forces me to be organized. Yet along with me and all the other transition teachers we prove the point you can get to class in time in 6 minutes."
While interviewing everyone we kept seeing a pattern. It isn’t the transition time that is the problem. It is the students blocking the hallways that is the main complication. Students causing a disruption in the hallway creates traffic in the hallways which may make it a little difficult to travel from class to class. The school has been trying to alleviate this problem by locking students out of their buildings to motivate them to get to class, which has helped to alleviate the problem to an extent. The sad part is that this problem may never be able to be fully solved. Now we would like to know, what do you think about this?
